Well she did not believe in the concept of society after all, a sort of philosophical nihilism that begins and ends with the concept that your are born alone and will die alone,

maybe it is what she would have wanted

People still talking bout this

I can't remember when she was in power but I think she was great!

My old man was a miner and directly affected, he thinks she was ok too, respects her even.

You can't please everyone all the time, how was someone soo bad voted back in for ten consecutive years? No really I know nothing about politics I'm genuinely asking lol.

I'd love to see 15% interest rates on my savings.

Compared to what we get in the average high street saving's account doesn't even cover inflation All so people can get cheap mortgages and loans....which they can't because the banks won't lend anything to them anymore....hence wonga.com

What a mess. However I don't blame Thatcher for it, she may have set the foundations, but the shoddy results built upon them were done by subsequent government's inattention and inaction until it was too late. Talking of which...what is Gordon (aka Saviour of the global economy) Brown doing these days? Will anyone mourn his death? I won't, but then I won't be doing happy dances in the streets either.....too many potholes. ( joke BTW - I wouldn't celebrate anyone's death )

Thaught of the day.

Japanese car driving northern arseholes moaning how the wicked witch of the South ruined Britain.

Mainly a matter of pride I suppose. And if I really needed the cash I could have sold the scoob (instead I laid it up, sold some of my Hifi gear and bought a £200 VW polo to razz around in).
Well i am claiming. It's only £70 a week, but i'm legally entitled to it. I've done 17 years solid work before i was made redundant. It's the system successive governments have devised and approved and as a UK citizen, i can legally claim it.

Why should you be made to feel bad about it, it's getting stupid.

Thatcher is now to blame for the current economic crisis? First the bankers now Thatcher, Christ who's next to blame.

In what way is Thatcher to blame for the World's current economic crisis?

You should zip up now Warren, too much for a public forum.

Have you still got her posters up on your bedroom wall?

Oh,I'm sure Twatteeboy will be along soon to reprimand you for taking your entitlement. Do you not think it would be better to be a hero and not have claimed though

The current mess is nothing compared to the mess she inherited, a crippled Britain in massive decline failed by decades of successive governments before her time, a country half run by militant unions leaders manipulating their workforce for their own political gains. Britain was the basket case of Europe and if it were not for the strong leadership of Thatcher, we'd be buying everything in Euro's and this country would most likely be in the same situation as Greece and Cyprus instead of being the top financial hub of the world.

Subsequent administrations did nothing to stop it, whereas they could have.

The Versailles Treaty laid the foundation for WWII, but they could still have stopped in the 1930s, but chose not to.

Who's really at fault?

If you have a leaking pipe, do you let it leak or fix it?

But she didn't fix it, all she did was turn the tap off.

No posters, but I am intelligent enough to recognise the positive contribution she made to the UK which it seems has completely passed you by, probably because you're a thick tw@t

She sacked all the clueless plumbers that sat on their ***** watching the leaking tap then out sourced the contract for maintenance to China.

just a point of order here (and the reason why I edited my post with "" marks)

I was just interested in ALI-B's view that she "may have laid the foundations" for our current sh1tstorm - yet he did not blame her

that's all

and as I pointed out several pages ago -- if you believe what she (and her governnment) did was correct - shutting down zombie industries - turning off the tap

surely a criticsm is that, that is only one piece of a complicated jigsaw, something has to be put in its place

Without wishing to become the arch Thatcherite... there was plenty 'put in it's place'. There was a massive culturual shift towards private enterprise, small business number increased massively, as did inward investment.

Maybe I shouldn't use metaphors...to expand:

My view is the foundations were solid. But the work on the building built on top of them was precarious and badly managed.

I hope Blair and Brown get this much stick when their time comes, for taking over a vibrant economy left to them by John Major and then farking everything up big style.

Things can only get better ? how ironic that choice of song proved to be.

This country needs another intervention a la 1979

These people have put themselves in the firing line, whether they like it or not

Maggie will be remembered for streamlining the economy ( putting a million straight on rock an roll ) flogging off housing stock cheap ( without replacing it ) to buy votes and making us reliant on the city forever more.

One eyed jock /Tony Blair have just exacerbated the problems helping us to easy credit

We're still trading, only cos people pay their taxes
