Slight thread hijack but following on, I have a japspeed front mount I'm collecting on Saturday...... What pipe work/valves do I need to buy to get it plumbed in right in addition to what comes in the kit please?

Lol people calling the dump valve chavvy are probably sitting in their little old classics with a huge body kit and massive bean can sticking out the back

My advice, take note im 21: bought my scoob 9 months ago, with a dump valve, sounded great but then realised its chavvy, took it off put std recirc back on, didnt miss the sound at all, then went dv'less, sounds even better, also with std recirc or dv'less car runs alot smoother, this is my personal experience, I even put the dv back on to see if it was just me but no, you can notice the diff between the gearchanges, Alot smoother without dv. If anyone thinks this is nonsense then I really don't care, I believe in stating facts on experiences and not on rumours. Do your own experiments
its got the std recirc dv on it, car is completely std other than the ppp exhaust and ecu upgrades, its running 240bhp and 227lbft at the mo.
to have a quick look to see if its the dv causing this, or just my lack of gear change ability if i were to leave the dv in place and just disconnect the vac hose and block it off, would i then see the recirc open under load? or will this little test be sufficient to see if it eliminates the gear shift issue?
as if it does, ill remove and blank the dv all together. im quite partial to the chatter sound lol, but will have to remove the resonator box to get the most from it...
is the TD04 that i think i have (2001 uk300) ok to go without a DV? i think they are, but not really looked into it!

Ah, after reading this, when driving my uk300 quick, when changing from second to third at high revs i get a kind of hesitation, bit like a momentary flat spot i guess and the shifts are not that smooth. i just put it down to only having the car 2 weeks and being capable of driving it properly yet lol.

im wouldnt run dv less on your car as the turbo wont like it and not last too long.

I dont think there is a leak as 2 days after purchase i put it through an mot and while there (circuit motors castle combe) i got paul to stick on the rr for a quick check over to make sure all is well.
it peaked at 15psi and dropped to 8psi at higher revs - i have no idea if thats normal or not tho lol
over 6 runs it consistently made between 245-251bhp and 225-231lbft, torque is down a little as i think it should be 260lbft on the prodrive map. but that could be the fuel it was on, esso super 97ron?
when i get the chance ill have a look under the bonnet and see whats what.

id run it on 99 ron fuel and get a proper remap as the ppp map isnt great.
im not sure about the ppp map on a wrx but im pretty sure the minimum fuel is 98 ron this may explain why your slightly down on power.
id run a few tanks of 99 ron through it and try it again on the rr.

its got tesco 99 in it at the mo, as i wouldnt have got it to the nearest shell for vpower lol
it does state that you can use it on 95!! but i wouldnt ever do that.

im not sure on the wrx but my sti has a sticker on the flap about 98 ron minimum.
id use 99 to be sure on your car.
personally id get a custom remap on 99ron fuel it will make a bit more power but more importantly make the cars power delivery much better.
nothing wrong with tesco 99, my car was mapped on this and runs fine, shell may be better but there isnt one local to me.

to add, the car is my daily and i dont really want to mess about with it much. also in standard trim it will probably be worth more in the future should i choose to sell it.
its possible that with a decent remap it could be slightly better on fuel, but knowing me, if it went faster, id drive it faster lol.
who do you guys use for mapping? im near castle combe and dont know of many places around here. the guy at circuit motors was trying to sell me a remap, but it was something like £650?? needs a board adding to the ecu to make it mappable or something.

if someone has told you that you need a board adding id avoid at all costs as he is a bullsh1tter and god knows what he would do to your car.

with your current standard spec you should see about 265 ish give or take a few bhp and up to 280 with a decat exhaust
its not the top line bhp with a custom remap though its how much better the car delivers its power.

yes is a 2001 bug. the guy is a dastek dealer, and my experiance of them some years back was that they add a 'uni chip' board to enable them to alter the map.
not sure exactly if that was what he would do mind.
but i know i wont be paying that lol. are dynamix just a generic map?

he has mapped both mine and my gfs car (hers is a bug wrx with a decat only and that made 278 bhp)
no chip needed, id avoid your dealer as he doesnt sound like he knows a lot about imprezas.

What you want is the biggest loudest one you can fit under the bonnet, I've never seen this but have heard it's true that some people fit them so big the can hardly close the bonnet, how cool is that?

DV are personal choice, i like them myself.
GFB do a double trumpet one, thats prob pretty loud, also will depend on how much boost there is to release

o, p.s. mapping is a total mine field and who you use is your own choice, some folks rate some mappers who are thought to be pants by others, also alot of partisanship on mapping systems and mappers.
personaly i would stick with ecutek, Pat Herborn is my mapper of choice.

personal choices are few and far between, but the ones id mostly consider are, in alphabetical order, not order of preference:
MA Developments (Basingstoke)
MSD (motorsport developments blackpool)
Norris designs (nearest to me in Melksham)
Reyland motorsport (Birmingham)
Will Pedley Racing (Leeds)

To the OP - In a nut shell:
Fitting a VTA dumpvalve is a bad idea. They have no positive effects and lots of negative effects. Plus you will look like a complete plonker.
Save your cash and give the car a good service.
