Mkhan - Most do realise. But it's to be expected on an Impreza BBS If you went onto the MG board spouting, you'd expect a similar reaction

Lets all play nicely shall we

Mark,

How ya doing? Totally agree with you mate, the scoob isn't the best, or the be all and end all.

And yes, if they are sitting up your a$$ you could just boot it, but why should we have to break the speed limit in a 30 or 40 to achieve it? Thats my main annoyance. They are not going to get there any faster by sitting 1ft off my bumper at 30 or 10ft, I won't rise to them and exceed the speed limit so they can either have a go or achieved the satisfaction of making you speed up or whatever.

As I said, its admirable what they've done with the badge and they do look sporty little numbers, much better than the equivalent Rover, not my cup of tea but hey!!

And this never applies to scoob owners
That comment was aimed specifically at some people on this thread, perhaps my post wasn't dripping with quite enough sarcasm

I for one chose to ignore it. I do not think people are egotistical for voicing their personal opinions

Thank you. We're all refreshed and challenged by your unique point of view.

Well, I like 'em. And fair play to MG.

Come down off the cloud that some of us are on, and realise that it doesn't have to be an Impreza to be a decent budget performance car.

Question

Don't MGs cost a lot less than Scoobs ??

Maybe the new MG owners like the performance of their cars and want to see how it compares to the "mighty" Impreza. (though I must admit that if they constatly drive up yer 4rse then its a bit daft !!)

Don't tell me that no-one on here has raced a top spec Beemer or Merc or Porsche or something... who knows, maybe their respective BBSs are full of comments about "to55er Scoob drivers"

Apparently the motor press are generally full of praise for the new MGs and personally I'd much rather have one than say a Clio 172 !! The MGs are selling well and are slowly bailing MG Rover out of ths mire !! Fair play to them !! Have to agree with MKhan ! They're not as bad as motorcyclists !!

You're right, they only become egotistical when they believe their opinion is the only opinion

Or when they start to speak on behalf of an entire group when that group is made up of more diverse opinions:

Have to agree, I've got nothing against the MG's and yes they do look nice but it does seem that everyone who owns one seems to have to prove that there really is a good reason why they have a huge spoiler on the back. On the motorway the other day I had one driving like a complete idiot weaving in and out of traffic.

Prior to my Scoob all the cars I owned were Rovers of one sort or another (last being 220 Coupe Turbo) so I have the upmost respect for what they are doing now. As for those slagging them for having large rear spoilers, christ almight, talk about double standards!!

I just can't believe the arrogance of a lot of owners on here. Believe me, there are a lot of badly driven cars where owners seem to be trying to prove a point or whatever and Scoobies are not the best cars in the world.

A **** behind the wheel of a car is just that, it's not the car you should have issue with, it's the driver.

DP.

"there really is a good reason why they have a huge spoiler on the back"

And there is a "good" reason why so many imprezas have huge spoilers !?!

erm, have any of you driven one of the new MGs? A collegue at work has one (a ZS V6 in yellow), and whatever you think about the looks it handles damn well, certainly nicer than the Leon I drove.

I think that what MG have done with the Z-cars is great. Not only a good engine, good handling but looks good as well - not often you get all three qualities in a hot hatch IMHO. The colours are nice too - its the first yellow Ive seen that I like but Id get one in trophy blue.

urm did you actually read what I wrote, I said they look great and yes there is a reason for the spoiler, well over a certain speed. My point was that so far while driving on the road I've never seen an Impreza drive like a complete ***, but funny enough I've seen plenty of those MG's doing exactly that and they've only been out for about a year. And as for it being the driver that's the cause not the car, exactly so all those drivers must be buying the MG's. Please don't jump down someones throat before actually reading the post properly.

I have not only a Scooby but also an MG ZT.
It is chalk and cheese between the cars - but for comfort, interior, looks and dry handling, the MG wins hands down.
Shame that there are too many blinkered tw@ts out there who think that Subaru are god like.

Please explain how the Impreza needed the spoiler to go up from the size it was for MY94-MY97 then middle type and then the sort of thing we see on STI6/ RB5 WR - yet revert to small again for the MY01 bugeye

Errr performance changed that much ???/? - Don't think so

Tuned for extra downforce so we can all sit at 140 - a speed MG's can only dream off as they run out of puff at ohhh about 135 ?

Thought most spoliers on road cars were tuned for neither downforce or lift but to be neutral.

Must be where you live - most of the **** I see driving are 17-20, with basebal caps driving low cost hot hatches - or middle aged and driving people carriers/4x4 at speeds that would require the best part of the county to stop if they had to.

Booger. Got to this thread late on. Cheers to P1Fanatic, Chris T, dsmith and a couple of others for bringing some sense to the thread.

As has been said the ZS180 (see my review on www.xpower-mg.com) is a brilliant, brilliant drive and and the interior on the ZT puts the Scooby to shame. I'm sorry, but I just don't see the difference between making a performance variant of the Rover models (akin to MG's true history) and making performance variants of the Impreza... <whisper>They do a non-turbo, non-bespoilered, actually quite boring really version of the Impreza too you know </whisper>. Taking the **** is nothing less than hypocracy surely!

Oh and by the way Chris,

...started to modify the rover foxcat - the 220 coupe bodyshape...
it's 'Tomcat' mate... T'was the project name for the car.

Er just like to point out the MG's are up there with the big boys in the latest rounds of the BTCC.

Can that be so bad? Horses for courses. If it suits you sir,get one,if not dont.Tailgaiters come in all shapes & sizes & drive diff. marques.

Life is too short to worry what everyone else is doing.

Whilst you are worrying you could be doing.

Dry handling better than an Impreza??!?! Flipping eck, better sell the scoob and buy an MG then Hmmmmm

As for looks - the 45 version MG (whatever it is ZT,ZS,ZR etc) has been styled to look just like a scoob/evo, even down to the spoiler and style of wheels (very similar to P1), just without the bonnet scoops so how can it be so better looking?????

As I said - respect for what they've done but these arguments are stupid. The cars are both in a different class even if they have the same type of bodyshell.........
I believe the main complaint was not on the looks or whether they are better or not, but with the issue/opinion that so many of them seem to have a tailgating problem. I used to think BM's and Audi's were bad but MG have taken them over for the amount of times it happens. Funny though, never had 1 scoob sit up my bumper...............

Not surprised with the similarities in styling as the same bloke did the P1 and the Rovers.

For '10' year old designs to be improved so much to bring them up with more modern cars either shows how little car dynamics have improved over the last decade or how good a 10 year Civic chassis is.
