This
And I'm sure we can let as many sick kids come along as more than 1 may wish to come along.

thats what i think is best too

it would be difficult to pick out which sick child it would be named after, i know one thing, i wouldn't like to have to make that decision

i think it should just be one charity each year (like NBO)

lets get some ideas for names up then

my idea is - cars for stars

just been looking on the rainbow trust website and they do a gumball rally http://www.rainbowtrust.org.uk/about.../Gumball+Rally

so i'm sure they will have contacts and experience in a day like we are trying to arrange

could you phone them to see (its better if you do it, then its not different people with different bits of info)

I don't see how that charity will have info etc as it seems that gumball donated to them only with the money raised.

Let me just get this venue sorted first and then the rest can follow.

Agree a kids charity and then contact them, they will offer help and advice

All charities nowadays have an events team for this sort of thing

After thinking and looking at the attendee list above, I'm thinking there's not as much demand/intrest this year, due to the severity of the story last year it touched people's heart and made them come.
This year it's just for charity like last time but with not as much of a heartfelt story as to why I'm thinking like this, maybe I'm wrong and it will kick off once venue is arranged and the word spread.
I know a few people will come along with the other forums, but I'm thinking do we really need a massive event as I reckon we won't have as many cars as last time if I'm perfectly honest,
what do you guys think? Do you reckon it will grow once venue is sorted and a date is confirmed?

I really hope so, it's a great chance for all of us to see some really nice machines, for the people bringing them to show them off and to help raise some money for some really good kids charities. I for one would be really grateful if any of my two were poorly. Andy

I think it would.

However, time is getting short and people generally need a fair bit of notice, whether it's planning to attend, or having to put some work in.

My main concern is that it could be too much in too short a time, resulting in a less rewarding (in all respects, not just financially) effort and event.

On the other hand having a whole year to plan could produce a very highly organised event, with masses of input, feedback from this and other forums and coordinated by a few people via email and footslogging.
There is one other aspect - it would provide a clear demarcation between last year's event and future ones.

"Connor's Day" was clearly an inspiration from what I've seen of it, and the saying that success is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration is a truism.

What we don't want is anyone sweating on the outcome.

How far advanced were the preparations this time last year?
Measure against that and I suggest we'll all have the answer.

i think its getting a bit late too. like has been said, people need a date and venue to be able to plan things, sort things out, finish things. last year was a massive success at very short notice, but this year it should have been sorted earlier (how many times have i bumped asking for info)

the sooner a date was arranged, the more people talk about it and get ready for it. if a date and venue had been sorted in, say, january, then 'connors day' was still fresh in peoples heads and forums, but now it will have faded.
people were saying what a fantastic day it was, over 1000 cars, but a lot of people couldn't make it (working, location, holiday, only 1000 cars allowed). then they see the date for the next day and want to do their very best to attend this fantastic event

what's that saying - strike while the irons hot

That's pretty fair dave tbh but I thought there were on it (theres been plenty of time to sort it anyway) but hey ho,

I was talking to guy who owns Melbourne airfield (York raceway) but he's having a testing day of some sort, he is trying to move it to another day but it's not looking promising but has gave us a definate for next year.
So still waiting on that tbc, gonna phone a couple more places tmr.

Any suggestions welcome

OK.

I'm going to take the bull by the horns (and any crap that follows).

We start to organise an event for NEXT year.

The idea is that ANY OR ALL car enthusiasts will come together to promote an event that will raise money for any good cause (registered with the Charity Commission) that supports children with a life-threatening medical condition, and their families.

Each year the event will bear the name of a Subaru enthusiast who has sadly departed but in the light of the motoring community it will be called "Cars for Stars".

Our aim is to make this an annual national event, in order to publicise the difficulties some families face and to increase all forms of support that they receive.

I have a dream, convoys from all over the country merging, descending on Yorks and making it the media's 'must report' event.

I have to agree with LWC.

Connor's day was a success because it was spontaneous, that is something that you can't plan!

A 2013 event..it's too late to organise a successful big day.

If a 2014 event is organised and structured it could be a world-wide event just as Connor's Day was.
Get the owners of the forum on board, I am sure that they have many places to spread the word.

If it`s too late for this year to have a meet what about attending Trax with a Connor stand,
Raises awareness and gives people who went to that last one somewhere to remember it,
Get some buckets out and see if we can collect some cash for a good cause.

That's a very good idea ! (although there might need to be a little discretion re. the name).

This I can only agree on at this present moment.

My sentiments exactly as previously quoted.
It's too late to organise an event on a big airfield and only a small percentage turn up. As said Connors day struck chords with people and wanted to attend under the circumstances.
I don't want to arrange this and not get full exposure, it's needs time and plenty of notice with a confirmed venue, so let's say it's sorted for next year 2014 around aug-sept to avoid clashes with other events then folk have plenty of prior notice and has plenty of time to circulate.
This way the airfield gets filled up and make it a worthwhile event and loads of money for the charity.
