What intercooler kit is that Martin? I'm looking for a piping kit for my blob as I have the HDI kit where it runs under the car and it has caught the floor a few times so looking to replace it for an up and over kit like yours.

Also never seen a 53 plate bug before, I never realised they done them that late

It is a Japspeed kit mate. Seems a pretty good kit and others on here have had nice power gains after fitting.

There aren't many 53s around at all. It is originally imported from Ireland so might explain it, even more so that it is white.

Looking good Martin, I reckon you put a bug front end on a blob just for the fun of it

Cylinder 3 runs hotter, so more prone to det, if it's running lean you've probably melted a piston

When did you last change your plugs

Plugs were changed two years ago, I have been taking it easy and not hooning it around so fingers crossed it will be ok.

Probably needs some new plugs - I don't trust the 3-year/36000 mile interval on these cars, or maybe you've knocked the coil pack connector whilst fitting the FMIC. I'd expect more than a misfire if you'd melted the piston

God I hope so other wise off to the breakers it goes.

I have reset the code with the psi3 so will see how it goes. The tick over is fine and the engine hasn't sounded any worse than it did when I first put the FMIC on.

If looking from the front of the car where is cylinder 3?

Cylinder 3 has the oil pressure bung on it, so back left if you stand at the front of the car looking towards the engine

Thanks Jura, I have and will continue to tack it easy. I have kept driving it after the code reset and touch wood it hasn't come back on so I have stopped worrying.

I'm going to order the plugs over the weekend so they will be done at the same time as the remap.

Thanks for your comments and help guys, really appreciate it

I bought a neoprene air duct but it is so large I was struggling to get it up the wing and ran out of light. I am going to have another go tomorrow and should get it in this time.

Also got my NGK PFR7B through ready for my remap. I was going to fit an sti8 up pipe to get a better spool up but can't be bothered to change it now as I already have a de-cat up pipe fitted.

When you say STI8 up pipe and the one you've got now is de cat one , is it uprated one you've got or some other standart?

I am asking cause all STI up pipes are the same , the de cat ones, from classic to new age , so unless is some other special one like Harvey(RIP) or other decent size slip jointed one , don't waste your time , it will do same job .

Best way is to get the bumper and wing off - not really that difficult and will make the job much easier

The one I have now isn't an STi one, Rich said it looks like a 3" after market one but not a clue who made it.

He only suggested fitting the STi up-pipe to spool up the turbo better.

Jon, thanks for the advice I will give it a go.

You'll make the biggest mistake if you wont fit the propper size one buddy. Please don't be lazy and make an effort to do that as it will make a huge, and i'm saying huge difference in a spool and responsivness of a car, i'm just speaking from experience. You will have eventually to coming back and doing it again, udjusting the map etc., and waste your hard earned. Just give Rich to do this and you'll never will come back to the problem ... FMIC and wrong size up pipe will ruin the drivability of the car.. The size of the up pipe counts alot.... Don't make a mistake...trust me...

Have to agree, if it's worth doing, it's worth doing properly. You'll find it much more fun and more driveable. The worst bit of the job is getting to the top end nuts/bolts, but as you've got a decat in already you won't be fighting to get the cat through a gap that is too small

I was happy enough with how it spooled up before the FMIC, it was just what rich mentioned before I thought about the fitting a front mount.

I haven't got the cash for an extra two hours labour for rich to change it unfortunately so was going to do it myself but have now read that the headers need removing and sounds an absolute nightmare to do on my drive.
