I thinl the press has hold of the important bit ok.
If 750 tonnes of something that isn't beef (nearly) got thru the net, what else has been missed? Antifreeze in the wine? chalk in the flour? **** in the tinned carrots. My old man told me about the last one, used to happen in a canning factory in this country in the 70's that he worked at. To this day he won't eat tinned carrots.

It shoudln't happen, but no system is infallable.
might be a bit blasay about the whole thing but not alot else you can do.

Do you propose you make your own super unleaded too?
And the drugs your doctor prescribes for yourself and your family?
We pay into a system to look after us (well, some of us do) and we find the system is letting us down. No shocks there tho

if you knew it was horse meat and you knew it was totaly drug free would it bother you to eat it?

No it would not. As stated before I have happily eaten horse, snails, frogs legs etc but was sure they were fit to eat as I was sure it was correctly identified. What bothers me is that once you accept an element of criminality then the quality of the food stuffs has to be called into question too. All that has been identified is the type of meat, not the grade. Cat food probably, land fill more likely.

Indeed. Findus lasagne might have been quoted as been packing 100% horse, but what if actually 2% was cat/badger/fox that was scrapped off the road?

The thing is the French have been eating horsemeat for years. Its just we dont see it as a viable food due to our close affinity to these animals. (Not the French the horses i mean)
The new problem is that the horsemeat we have been eating does seem to be possible contaminated with horse drugs.
Goodness knows what else we are eating unknowingly

yeah, friend of mine has a house in fracne, goes out regular, he eats horse and says there isnt much difference and doubts 99% of folks could tell the difference anyway haha

Have had horse in France on several occasions and have usually compare the better cuts with Venison rather than beef. I agree that most wouldn't tell the difference.
In parts of France horse is a delicacy and fetches premium prices. Which begs the question. If the horse meat passed off as beef was any good, why wasn't it sold to the French at a profit?

Again, for those who can't keep up. There is nothing wrong with eating healthy, well bred, well slaughtered, properly treated and packaged horse (or offal) that is deemed by professionals to be fit for human comsumption. But somehow I don't think the meat in question falls into any of these categories, which is why I asked the original question.
Which bit does dpb not understand?
If the government can't be certain what the meat is, or where it is from, or where it has been. Then how the hell can they say it's safe to eat?

They love it here, it's the plat de jour in my local tonight. I'm not fussed, but if I was buying beef, I'd want beer, not horse...

Straight from the horses mouth, so to speak...
Still having a bit of trouble after eating one of the Tesco's burgers containing horsemeat. My condition is now stable, I have had the trots but after overcoming a few hurdles, I'm odds on to make a full recovery although the doctor said it was a bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted!
If You've been put off Tesco's burgers, try their meat *****!.....They're the dogs bollocks!

In response to the revelation about horse meat in Tesco burgers, they have release a statement stating that they also cater for vegetarians.....They said " We are also putting UniQuorn in the veggie burgers"
Went to the freezer to check my Tesco burgers and....THEY'RE OFF...
It turns out that the horses were molested before they were turned into burgers...The police are asking anyone who knew Jimmy Saddle to come forward.
Never eating another one of those Tesco burgers. Bloody things gave me the trots...Hopefully it won't last furlong!
Those Tesco horse burgers were nice, but I prefer My Lidl Pony.
I bought a burger at Tesco's cafe, the waitress said "would you like anything on it?" I replied " a fiver each way ".
I've had it tough lately working on the meat counter at Tesco's......it feels like I'm flogging a dead horse!
Tesco say they're out of stock on Burgers but they've got a fresh delivery coming in at 10 to 1.
HMV Vouchers now being accepted at Tesco. Just tell them HMV stands for Horse Meat Voucher.
