I was going to get an LG LCD but richer sounds advised against that.
Went for a 42" viera plasma and it's great. Don't need additional sound. Was only £340.
Really.? Maybe I'm being fussy but I have Viera tx-p42vt30b, the sound was better on our old goodmans 20" crt
It is not recommended to put tv screens above your eye level when you are seated as it will be out of your natural eye line,the most common mistake when positioning a screen.Also a big screen above a fireplace or up on a wall dominates a room & looks terrible in my humble opinion.
Indeed , this is why we didn't place above fireplace, maybe been ok if fireplace was twenty feet away...
Presently its plonked on old table other one was (one of set of three ) slightly higher than seated position
I got a Panasonic txp50gt50 yesterday and the picture is too good, makes everything look like a film set. Everything looks a bit 3d as well even without the 3d glasses.
We had a Panasonic 42" plasma for some time and it always had a good picture as well as being totally reliable for opver 5 years.
I recently changed it for a Panasonic 47" LCD which has a remarkably good quality picture,cinema like in fact, and have not regetted it. I also uses about 112 Watts compared with the 300+watts which the plasma required. There is no blurring of a moving picture as older LCD screens used to be accused of.
Been meaning to do this for ages: I just did a test on our TX-p42V20 on the power meter...curently its pulling around 120watts on normal daytime TV (well Harry Potter )
The Onkyo surround amp is using just a much power And the 300 odd watts my PC+LCD+LED monitor setup is currently using is rather alot just for having a nosey on Scoobynet

The power ratings for LCD/LED TV's are a joke, they are a bit like MPG ratings on all these eco/blue motion cars.
WHY do all these TV's have to have identifiers like "XYZ54321ABC098PQR" attached to them?
It just makes it impossible to compare prices, or even remember exactly which one you saw.
Panny's are quite logical for mine its:
TX = TV
P = Plasma (L for LED)
42 = screen size
V = V series (high end 2D, VT is for high end 3D, G is mid range 2D, GT is mid range 3D)
20 = model year identifier (50 is the current one)
We sat and looked at the "above the fireplace" option last night, and it WASN'T comfortable sitting looking upwards all the time. So that's out.
Meanwhile, a 46" TV across the corner..........not going to fit
Our 47" Panasonic fits quite happily across a corner of the room on a stand. It is where our 42" panasonic used to be and the outer dimensions of the tv's are the same but the 47" one have a thinner surround to the dcreen.
