Call me Dave seems to be deliberately becoming more controversial, including with his own party. He appears to be easing the skids under himself. He is not even impressive enough as a leader to get away with it either.

Marriage for homosexuals is all wrong to my mind. It is instituted for heterosexual couples and is largely for protecting the children of the union. It is a contract between a man and a woman to stick together for life. It should never be used for a homosexual relationship.

Homosexual behaviour is not illegal and if a couple wants to live together in such a relationship, then they can carry on as they have done in previous years which has never bothered anyone else. No reason why they can't live their own lives and they don't need a marriage ceremony to enable them to do that.

I voted yes, don't see why gay people shouldn't have the option to be as miserable as the rest of us

Jeez, I could have sworn you batted for the pink team.

Anyway, gayness is wrong it's immoral and gays should be put on a little gay island someplace where they can bum each other to death and leave the rest of us 'normal' people to get on with life.

It just seems to me to be the wrong time. Marriage is a large part of any nation's culture and it seems this is being squeezed through the back door, with politicians telling us what we should believe on this religiously sensitive area.

I'd rather this measure wasn't forced down our throats.

But maybe those two men or two women want to get married, in a church, with all the usual wedding celebrations and stuff? Who are we to deny them if a civil partnership isn't illegal. I can't get my head around what harm it causes.

Because we have no right to tell religions what to do. They should have their own conversations and come to their own conclusions. If they decide thousands of years of tradition and history is worth more than the current flavour-of-the-month policy change, then that's their right.

Let them be as miserable as the heterosexuals, if that is really what they want. I've not actually heard of any homosexuals saying they want to be married.

The main bit's I've heard about is protecting the church. What's the Islamic view on this?

I think the most telling thing is that Dave has not even shown up to the debate. He's insisting on pushing it through, but now, when it comes to showing what he's made of, he's not there.

As said previously, what's wrong with the current system; Civil Partnerships?

IMO, men marrying men just isn't meant to be. I'm not religious (other family members are though), but men and woman are different sexes for a reason.

It's only the homosexuals who REALLY want this, just so they can say they're "happily married" and have a dance and sing-song.

As it's clear in this thread, the people who voted yes don't care, which brings me back to the first point... why not just leave it how it already is; Civil Partnerships?

This is the whole point of what they are trying to achieve, they want it placed in law that they are allowed to be married, then they will try and force the church to let them get married in a church.

Problem being, same sex unions are currently not sanctioned by any of the three main bunch of god botherers, so they're trying to get in through the back door as it's the only way they know.

No way the vatican will allow that, even though they are a bunch of bummers.

Likewise. I can't see the argument at all.

Saying it's the sanctity of marriage is just a joke. How many marriages are forever? Les I am afraid you are living in a different world. Look at the way marriage is just the thing to be done. There is no god bothering in it, it's done because it is a symbol. that's why all these celebs get married for a week then divorce in no time.

Why shouldn't the same status symbol be given to others?

As for the whole bible *****, if people want to live by that fine but the bible also says that i can have my wife stoned to death on the father in laws doorstep if he can't show, on demand, the bloody sheets that prove she was a virgin when we got married.

You can't just pick and chose what you want to like if the bible is going to be waved about (that wasn't directed at you Les and neither is the next bit).

all those worried about shirtlifting, the Roman army was one of the most feared war machines ever known and they really enjoyed their bum love in the bath houses. Gay marriage is hardly going to encourage more people to be gay.

Again, what is the exact problem it causes?

the church goers Choc...another minority getting what it wants over the majority and further erosion of the UKs identity, all in the name of catching more votes

Have dance and a single-song indeed and I why not after all, the rest of the marriage will probably never be as good

I don't really buy the encouraging gayness angle and don't see why the Church has anything to do with it. - how many couples never see a church where marrying!

It's symbolism and some rights obtained by signing a bit of paper

No it isn't. The C of E is explicitly banned from offering same sex marriages. It is exempt from this legislation.

You should really get a bit more informed before commenting on an issue.

I also wonder why it is such a seemingly big issue, I also wonder why we go all schoolboy about Bum Sex every time gays are mentioned, some hetero couples do that as well so I am not sure why it is so amusing still, if there are some new jokes then I am all for it but they are all the same ones.

I suppose some gays want to get married in a church, the problem is that the church's rules are contrary to a lot of public opinion abd the common law, apparently their boss isnt too keen on gays so as his appointed representative on earth they speak his will, well they speak from a position of authority in the church and a 2000 odd year old collection of writings as I dont think God accepts or replies to emails, hasnt got a moblie and doesnt read Scoobynet, realitically the Christian God doesnt exist int he form of the old man in the sky, or any of the other ones, it is men who decided all this, not God or any other diety, heterosexual men made all this up, or guilty gay ones trying to distance themselves from what would get you killed back then, the rest of socirty has moved on a bit but the religous still cling to the old ways, I notice none of the main religions have issued any new rules about computer usage, driving cars or whether you should buy Apple or Android, they never will becasue they are now fixed and cant cope as society changes and humans evolve, they want to keep us back in the glory days when organised religion was the Police, the goverment and everyone joined in, or at least went through the motions. What happens if a religion said its members are fobidden to drive cars or operate Mobile phones they would be knackered, people will only follow it if it is a minor inconvenience and if you arent gay, then you can tow the line pretty easily.

Why gays want to marry in a church when they know they arent welcome I dont know but some gays are fully paid up Christians, I find the whole religion thing harder to understand than same sex couples having sex, they are like us, animals, it is just their brain works a bit different for one reason or another and they like members of their own sex where I like the opposite, for me beleiving the seven day creation stuff and all the rules about sex, food, drink or whatever is not going to happen.

I know it isnt very blokey but I really have no issue, I am not gay, if I were I would be straight off down to Canal Street but I suspect a lot of men cant ever conceive that they could have ever been born gay, I suspect a lot of them also want to distance themselves, by buying manly, blokey cars with no style, like Subarus
