Pslewis,

Your repeated moaning is becoming tiring. It is in fact becoming consistent and typical of you.

To be frank, you are lucky that your account hasn't been banned. You have spent an entire Friday evening spamming the boards with utter nonsense.

We all know how everyone loves spam.
Please extend not only SDB, but other users of this board the courtesy they deserve. Do you believe everybody is interested in your cause?

I find your accusations towards Moray distasteful and by attacking popular moderators and friends of this board who do the work they do for the love of the community is plain bitter and will do nothing but alienate you from not only them, but other users also.

I appreciate you have had problems with Subaru and are trying to rectifying them but please conduct your mission in a mature and responsible manner.

Regards,
Cem

Pete,

Whether I like you or not is irrelevant. My opinion and posts would be the same whoevers name had been against these treads.

Do the moderators of ScoobyNet not have the power to ban a member from their registered IP address? I am a member of the i-club, and there are circumstances when a newbie gets way out of line. It also helps keeping the trolls out.

Why not just restrict Mr. Pslewis' access for a week and allow him to come back calm and rationale.

Just a thought. Keep up the good work

Pete

I am quite happy to continue taking you barrage of personal attacks. I have not been personal to you however you will not. I have not questioned your integrity or morals.

I actually typed a sentence similar to "Obviously we would clearly not be taken to court over that particular saying, but if they took offense to the whole post, they could potentially use that as part of their case." but thought it was blatantly obvious.

What I would suggest Pete is that you simply go and post another thread saying exactly what you want. I will read it, decide if I feel it is legal, pass it to the legal advisors I have to pay for a second opinion if necessary, then delete it if necessary, and leave it otherwise.

Then you will see how innacurate and off the mark your insinuations of me being in IM's pocket actually are.

regards

Simon

Have been reading this (and other) threads as they progress and had originally decided not to reply, but here goes...

...the post that made me reply is the one in "non-subaru related" forum - vote for free speech on BBS etc etc.

Read Acker's post in this forum....when you signed up to this BBS you agreed to the terms and conditions. If you now decide this is not to your taste, then you should go and start your own BBS, upon which you can do as you wish.

When you do so, I'm sure you will come to realise the hard work, time and money which Simon is investing in this BBS to keep it going, and it is for this reason that posts which may have an adverse effect on it's future are deleted.

On this BBS Simon has to face the effect of such posts, not you, so when you start your own BBS and someone posts slanderous remarks, you will, I'm sure, think about the consequences. Maybe you will then remember this day.

I will simply say what I have said in another post

I have had a great many e-mails this evening asking me to continue my quest to get the issue sorted - I will say here and now they number into the 50's - I have only counted a small number on here against me, and as we all know they will jump on any bandwagon that appears like its going to run over me!! you know who you are - yes you lot hiding behind that wall built by someone else!!

I didnt think I had got personal Simon - if you think I had then you and I are not talking the same language so we will never get anywhere will we?

You, can of course just kick me off the whole BBS if you want - but you know and I know I can come on as many different people

oh for goodness sake.

This is silly.

Pete. I am offering an olive branch here. I apologise for not emailing. I have already explained why I didn't, but I apologise none the less.

I have also said you can of course post another thread stating your case.

I have nothing against you and do not want to ban enybody or kick anybody off anything, I just want this bbs to continue to survive.

Can we leave it at that? I am not even going to demand an apology from you.

Regards

Simon

Pete,

You've said that as far as you're concerned, the matter is closed.

Can I make a suggestion ... don't allow yourself to keep rising to the bait .... be a big man and keep quiet now ... and then it'll all die down ... and in due course you can carry on being your controversial, but lovable self

Can I suggest that (with Petes permission ) that maybe this thread is now locked...

Surely enough has been said over the last 24 hours...

Simon and Pete both appear to have shaken "keyboards"....is there really anything else that needs to be stated, that hasn't already been said???

I'm with Rum - I thnk everything has been said on this topic. Pete persoanlly, I hope you get things sorted out, but it is clear that Simon has been put in an extremly awkward position. He had to act - that's his job.

Pslewis,

You going on and on and on and on, isn't going to make any difference now!!!! What ever has happened has happened, and that's it!!!! Simon has deleted your thread and isn't going to change!!!! Just put your self in Simon's shoes, he spends both time (at least 4 hours a day on admin) and alot of money (and I mean alot). You as everybody else uses this forum for FREE. There are rules and you broke them...PERIOD. This board has never and will never be a dictatorship. Posts are VERY RARELY ever deleted or moved.

If you don't like what happened then take this off-line with SDB. Why go on a international BBS and moan about it.... U R making yourself look a proper tit. If you don't agree with the BBS rules or management DON'T USE IT. Simple as that really!!!

Regards,
Shaun.

Ive been vocal in my pro "freedom of speach" attitude on the Web and indeed this BBS. I got a post scratched because i made a joke in the past, and then other people have had threads deleted and ive posted in their support.

However, i think that anything that jeopardises the future of this BBS is ridiculous. So as much as it hurts me to say this, i think we should all realise that posting anything slanderous is a no-no!!! Think what we could lose against the benefit of hearing something from Mr Lewis that most of us know to our own costs.

I think that replying to Mr Lewis knowing his volatile nature and admiration for himself and his own posts was a bit pointless. He always seems to have to have the last word.

Can i just suggest that Simon takes some action to notify every user on the BBS that slanderous material is not accepted and will be deleted immediately - explaining why. Hes then told everyone, so its no surprise (as it was to Mr Lewis) that threads get deleted.

Then he doesnt have to waist any more of his Friday nights!!!

Jza

Jza

I thank you for your support (truly).. however..

Firstly can you please edit your post which states about the JD Power survey as a matter of urgency... It is not for you to decide who deserves the jd power survey, it is for the far more detailed and diverse methods they have devised. Not for one person's opinion. I will delete the comment myself within about 5 - 10 minutes.

secondly..
You have already been informed that slanderous material is not allowed when you accepted the terms and conditions of membership.

Thanks again

Simon

Nope, two things...

1) Common Sense
2) Respect and understanding for the position Simon is in.

Having run the UK supras mail group for a while I know how Simon feels. My view is that Simon runs the BBS, and he can run it whatever way he wants. When people start paying him for the service they can have a say in how it runs and how he deals with messages which need moderating. If he removes a post then its his choice and he has no need to justify it to anybody. My attitude with UK Supras became one of 'if you dont like the way I run the list, fk off and start your own' which naturally got a few backs up but clearly stated who owns the list, but Im sure Simon would never take that approach.

On the subject of slander, this is a mail received by the UK Supras group a while ago. I wont give details of who it was sent from but it clearly speaks for itself..

<
Agreed. But a company taking an individual to court for slander and winning
can and has happened. All I'm saying is that people need to be a little more
careful now than say, a couple of years ago. Also, I know of more than a
couple of companies who have actually lost money on pursuing a claim against
a private individual, just out of spite and to f**k up their lives. Seems
silly I know, but I wouldn't take that risk and end up possibly losing my
house, car and bank account just because I thought I was an untouchable
'individual' and the company would lose money on me.
It doesn't always need to make financial sense to a company, especially if
the one in question is very profitable anyway...........>

I wasn't going to bother to reply, but thought I'd add my take as I've been involved with this sort of thing before, elsewhere, to do with website comments along with legal arguments on newsgroup postings and 'innocent distribution' from a hosting company/ISP position.

Fact is that that the one HOSTING the comments is just as likely to be liable as the person posting the comments.

Even the threat of a court case would get the comments removed most of the time. An actual court case would probably shut down this BBS.

Pete, if you want to make these comments 'as is' (and I will admit I didn't see the original) then put them on a website somewhere as an ongoing story - you may find, once the content is made known to the ISP, that there are few prepared to let you keep them online - in most cases your account would be terminated for a breach of the conditions (or even a percieved breach!).

ISPs are no longer prepared to risk action being taken against them (since Demon lost a high profile case a while back).

I've seen MANY posts on this BBS detailing both good and bad service from companies - if you state the FACTs then that should be OK.

Once you start to add 'your opinion' then its all too easy to let your frustration take hold and post something that may cause problems.

The moderators seem to do a pretty good and impartial job and deserve a pat on the back for the time/effort they put in. If they weren't prepared to do that, this BBS would die and I suggest we all think back to the death of Scoobynet 1 and reflect on what could have happened had Simon not stepped in.....

Question

Dear me, the 'do-gooders' and 'cough', 'ever-so goody two shoes' are still coming out of the woodwork are they??

Simon and I sorted it out days ago, I understand the rules, I would hazard a guess that most of those preaching to me didnt even read my original post, so I would politely say - shut your politically correct gobs until you are either in possession of the facts or your own minds!

Kryton - you have made some very good points - its good to have someone comment who is not just looking for a 'Jab at Pete Lewis for Free' statement of little value

The dispute was never about whether my post could get removed, whether it should have been removed or if it was right and just to do so, it was plain and simple about letting the originator know that it was going to happen - 6 words in an e-mail is all that is required ............. THAT is what the dispute and hurt was about.

As I said Simon and I have sorted it (I think?) and there is now an understanding - I do what I am told!!

I happen to be a school governor, yes, I know its incredible, but its true - so, I am absolutely with Simon in the frame of mind of someone giving up time, free, to benefit others ..... again, unlike a lot on here - I DO actually know what I am talking about, most of the time!!

Pete

Cool

Wow, what a fun thread! Don't some people get hot under the collar about nothing???
I think the BBS is great; I log on most days and today someone helped me find a rattle that's been driving me nuts for ages. I'd happily pay £20 a year for the service which is what SIDC charges. If I were Simon, I'd have quietly or otherwise removed Pete permanently. I have great respect for Simon in keeping cool and reacting in the professional way that he has. Well done.

Speaking of SIDC (in a wholly unslanderous way), I recently sent off my £20 for a year only to be told now that their subscription year runs from the summer and my £20 will, in fact, only last me 5 or 6 months. Have we all been fallen for this one? I guess it's probably in the smallprint on their website somewhere. I doubt I'll be renewing it.
