Yep interesting - with 3 eurofighters there, 3 battleships plus a Nuclear Sub parked off the coast the Argies would get their *** handed to them on a plate TBH....

Hopefully they know this too!

The 8th biggest country in the world with 40m inhabitants could be thwarted by a handful of aircraft, a submarine and a battleship. Something isn't right here.

You need to see the bigger picture.

If they really went for it, would they win? Probably but could they afford another Belgrano? Not a chance.

They know any combat would be expensive in terms of lives and machinery and money they don't have. They also need the support of those around them at the moment and while it is peaceful, they might have it. I can't see the rest of South America supporting an all out war.

Problem is the navy is uncapable of deploying a war fleet out of Europeian/ allied waters especially at that range, into international then 'enemy' waters, even mre so with 1000s of troops on board ocean, bulwark, invincible. We simpley dnt have aircraft or carriers for them, leave Europe and the RAF are out of range, to land troops on the Falklands with no air power would be faitle.
I doubt the argies would invade, the loss to there life would be huge to get passd the 2 companys garrisond and to defet the 2 eurofighters (1 wont be air worthy) but once they do get air power are ships would be targets, the garrison would be bombed and are defenseless re enforcement fleet is weeks away, no Vulcan now.
Vanguard is are main deterent.
There armed forces are bigger, closer and not tied up in Afghan, yeah there out dated but a inprovment on the 80s.
It would be a tragic war and should never happen and probably wont, especially with nato, eu, un and American treaties and powers to infuence it.

Dnt forget Britain gave American oil giants shell rites to explore for oil, i doubt they would allow war.

But that said we, are government, are armed forces should defend them what ever, the residents have that rite.

...and wasn't it the Spanish that invaded the part of South America currently known as Argentina around five hundred years ago. Maybe they should **** off back to where they came from (and stop winging about Gibraltar while they are at it)

As long as anybody lives who fought for those islands, and watched their mates die, it's a flat out no negotiation under any circumstance.

The link below gives a pretty good picture on the military state of both nations.

Also, technically Shell isn't an American oil company. Yes, Shell Oil Company is based in the US but its a subsidery of Royal Dutch Shell which is an Anglo-Dutch company.

The Argies wouldn't stand a chance. Our new fishing boat would just about wipe them out on its own.

I was going to say the same, a Type45 on it's own is a formidable platform.

Interesting, although having just watched Life Of Brian over Christmas, this line is stolen verbatim:

"... colonialism - aside from the roads, aqueducts, education, health reforms, economic development, culture, food, integration and innovation - tends to be a bad thing too."

I see the word "colonialism" being used increasingly these days by those that only choose to see one side of it.
