Ok thanks Alyn I will keep that in my mind, I was having a general look earlier at the different finishes available. Do you know what preparation is required before hand because I am able to drop a large wire wheel in my bench grinder and clean all the bolts up before hand.

Only a small update at the moment and I'm pleased to say the car is at the paint shop, I hope to call there tomorrow to go over a few things plus I hear the car is mounted onto a jig so will get a few pictures for reference.

Now I need the rest split down into component parts so I get on and start my side of the deal

There used to be a plating company 5 minutes walk from my house.

Might still be there, I dunno though, and it's not much help to you.

Ok time for another little update on where I am at the moment... The shell is in the paintshop and I have had a good look over it today with the painter Craig, he's happy with the shell and said there's nothing to worry about other than some light restoration work as there is no major rust as such just surface marking. There is a piece around the arial on the door pillar that will require some more work but again nothing major at all in the grand scheme of things.

We are looking at 4-6 weeks so I hope in this window I can now concentrate on all the work I need to do with the other parts and at least now it is warming up a touch I can get on with it and make some forward movement. I still require the rest stripped down so that's the next hurdle for me here.

So basically we are looking at rubbing back and etch primer then stone chip protectant and against primer and paint. That's just a basic overview

Now here's the shell warts and all its the only way....

The jig is just for transportation as its going onto a spit for prep work.

This is gonna look the absolute nuts when it's painted Si.
I love your build ethic and I know what a superb job you'll make of this. As an outsider, one of the most exciting builds on SN right now.

Thanks Frayz.... I don't know what to say about that I'm just trying my best here, there's so much I can't do but I will be doing as much as I can as I want to put my sweat in on this as well. The planning logistics can be quite stressful as you know how I am and there's so much not in my control it takes some effort to relax a touch and let things flow. I shall do the best as I can on the small budget I have, as said I'm not discussing money but this is not just an open cheque build I need to keep things as tight as I can here.

Right last batch for a bit....

Bonnet reaction against the alloy.

Rust around the rear drainage which is also going to see a clean up and top coat.

There we go full disclosed as they say warts and all... I was not sure how much to show but decided bugger it post the lot it's handy for reference for all of us.

Craig simply said trust me I'll give you a good job.... Well I'm in his hands that's all I can say here, I've left a camera with him plus I'll be calling in so hopefully I'll get plenty of progress pictures as we go.

I still think we should have dropped it off at the Land Rover place we called into Saturday for that brush paint finish and a 2 1/4 engine conversion.

It would be ready for collection in 30 years

Kev come back I have not finished with you yet lol at least he's budgeted his time living until 150 in order to finish 30 Landy's before he leaves us ! All we needed was banjo music that was mind boggling !!

Thanks gents I'm trying my best here, be good to get all the bits home next and start working on those.

Yes got there in the end Glenn thanks goodness.... I think I will be a little longer yet, even though I felt I had a timescale and I sort of extended it in my mind I still think I need to add the VAT on that I'm currently focusing on the end of June but we shall see, I'd like too but there is so much that's not in my hands so up to a point I have to go with the flow. It will be worth the wait that I do know

Slightly off tangent from the bodywork but I did find some great period **** pile mats a few weeks ago on here for a fiver

A good clean and a shampoo these will be like new, you would never buy mats that will last like this these days for sure

As you can tell I'm still tinkering until I get all the parts I need home then I can really show some rusty old pictures

It was a chance find from the "everything for a fiver " for sale thread and the chap selling them was spot on, I was looking but never expected to find a set let alone the full set... tbh I had not even realised until a mate came around a few weeks ago in his v2 that the mats were different, he has the blue design in his car and that's the first time I have even seen the rear tunnel mat that links the two rears together as well.

That is repairable Shane, you need to find someone with a heavy duty sewing machine, maybe an upholster business or a carpet shop. That's worth a google in your local area I think

I'm on the lookout for a drivers seat as well if anyone knows of a good one as mine has a hole in it.
