There should be an hour at least, either side of exercise.

my dogs at 5 years old and Nine walked 15 miles no problem and have done regular walks like that including moutains in North Wales and Lakes.

As said by others he is to young to run like that as his bones are not fully developed.

I can run with mine either beside me or a head depending on command, the trick is to teach the position static and once the dog understands where to stand in relations to your body start to add movement in and once it holds postion at walking speed then start a slow jog with the same command as its the position the command relates to not the speed you do it your movement.

i find rewards work best and a good technique to show the dog when it is doing the correct thing with out being able to give food imediately is using a clicker, you teach the dog that every click means food and then click at the moment it does the right thing you can then give the reward 10 secs later but the dog knows what it was that earnt the payment (dogs work for wages like us)

if the dog jumps up whilst your moving you then saying No (and dont hit it when teaching new commands) the dog doesnt know what the no is for......example do you mean dont stand so close to you or do you mean dont show interest in you (that is what its doing by jumping isnt it! so you could teach it to ignore you by punishing it) much better to stop running and go back to the slower speed for a few days and make sure it understands the position and then speed up slowly again

all the running will just make the dog fitter if you want to tire him out training and games that require the dog to concentrate will be more tiring, getting my dog to track a scent trail for 500 yards was more tiring than a 5 mile walk
