its all horses for courses.
i had the option to buy a WRX or an STI when i bought mine, i chose to go with a WRX PPP because it suited my needs the most. it just wasn't worth paying the extra £3k+ i was going to have to shell out for the equivalent aged STI for what i wanted to do with the car.
I've got no desire to go tear arsing around town, but i do like a bit of power their when i need it. the main reason i wanted a scoob is because of how they look slammed on their ****. i know im in the minority on here when it comes to running a scoob "low and slow" but the WRX PPP suited me perfectly for my needs.
which ones the "better" car? depends entirely on its purpose.
Mike.

My recently sold WRX Wagon managed 15mpg around town, was modded and I have lead in my right foot.
It was by far the best car that I have ever owned, and at the age of 61, I've had a lot !!.
Did I mention that it was an automatic?
It could change gears faster than most humans and on kickdown you could suffer whiplash.
If the car does what you want it to do then that's what owning a car should be all about.
I'll have to go and get more popcorn...

Lol, here we go again.
STI fanboys always think WRX drivers are like boxter drivers and couldn't afford the "Big Brother"
I have an STI type r in the garage and a WRX Wagon PPP on the drive.
The WRX is a very good match for ANY sti, in the real world there is bugger all in it.
It's lighter has a faster spooling turbo and makes it's peak torque well before an STI.
Spend the same amount of money on either and guess what, there will still be bugger all in it.
When i bought my first WRX from new in 04, i drove both and had the funds for either, but i chose the WRX because i preferred the ride, interior and exterior look of the car, the STI in my opinion looked chav tastic inside and out, the suspension was too firm for the crap roads and general day to day.
The debate about which is the better car will run forever, but ultimately depends what you want it for.
For me the WRX Wagon PPP AP4 pots on the front and a couple of handling mods is the perfect daily driver.
I don't give a stuff what anyone else thinks, each to their own.

STi vs WRX debate, it never gets old does it? I'm amazed nobody has brought the word Mitsubishi or Evo in here as well...... oh crap..
Lets be serious though, how many people have standard WRX / STi's on here anyway?
They are both Subarurururdobadoo's and equally awesome with mods, just the STi has obviously the better *initial* modding platform.

Well when I was buying my sti, I decided to get that over a Veyron. Just give me a minute and I will come up with some pathetic reason why the sti is better than a Veyron.

Having just sold a classic WRX and bought a Classic STI hopefully I have a valid opinion.
The WRX was more practical, more on/off than the STI is. The STI just seems to want to be ragged all the time whereas the WRX was either happy to plod along or get a little spirited.
One seems to be an out and out fast car whilst the other is a jack of all trades.

I used to own an 03 wrx and changed it for an 05 jdm sti. The wrx I never grew bored of and with ppp is a superb daily. I just wanted an sti and only a jdm would do but as daily driver the wrx is probably better suited for most. Depends what you are used to,

I agree with Daz. I,ve owned 5 Scoobs including 2 UK Turbos a JDM WRX and a STI 4. My Uk Turbo was modded to run 330 bhp, great car.If you need more power the Sti is the car to have. My current MY05 JDM Sti runs 375 bhp. In short they,re all great cars but if you want bigger power you,re best starting with an Sti.Steve.

My wrx is now running 350bhp, eibach springs and numerous white line bits so hardly lofty or slow. BUT you completely miss read my post, too busy trying to stir over an Internet thread......I pointed out the sti is the better car BUT that doesn't make the wrx any worse. That's like saying all BMWs are crap unless its an M3.....yes that's the best car but doesn't mean 330d M sport is sh*t!

Oh dear.
I have a Spec D, now with proper big wing and roof vane, and to be fair a fully forged Alan Jeffery motor with duel Ecutek mapping by Martyn
I also have BC ER series long travel coilovers because the standard STi shocks were so appaulingly bad!
Personally, my STi goes no faster day to day than a WRX would. The gearbox in commuting on the roads we have gives me a blister that the 5 speed on the WRX would not. The Coilovers are set about as softly as a WRX and I've put sound proofing in and the Standard rear box back on too.
So, I paid extra for the engine that blew a HG, crap suspension, leather seats and a stereo and speakers that went in the bin within days of getting it. Higher tax, insurance and my lord does it drink V-Power for fun!
Worth it? Well, every now and then I suppose, but it's a hell of a price just for a high boost razz up the Richmond or over the Slock once in a blue moon.
Too late now. I just have no time for those STi owners with tiny ******. The STi depreciates like it's in freefall so for value, the WRX is miles ahead. If you need the short throw box and extra thrust, you still need to spend the money and mod an STi (or the sodding 2.5 ones at least) or you won't get that buzz.
Perhaps other than the tax, the Spec D has the best of all worlds- so why when they were worth more new are they falling faster than stock STis' At, no Wing......

Had a 330 ci sport and a 530 diesel and if anyone thinks they're quicker than a wrx. You've been smoking something. Not to mention the first bend you go round. BMW nice cars but
