I'm all for Scottish Independence if the people vote for it (my parents live in Ayr and I was born there). However if you believe all the SNP rhetoric and lets be honest, lies; then you're a bigger fool than you come across as.

I asked you to post links to some of your outlandish claims earlier, you failed on that one.

You've posted about oil reserves being 50+ years. Again, show me the link, I can't find anywhere on the net that predicts anything past 2040.

And finally, being Scottish but residing in England I feel qualified to look at it from both sides. You along with nizmo80 both come across as so anti English. Luckily the majority of us Scots aren't.

Genuine question.. If Scotland achieves independence, does that mean they will all need to apply for new passports, including those living in England? Or will those living in England they now be classed as British (as apposed to Scottish) and keep their British ones? What are the rights of non-British citizens working in the UK? Will they need to apply for work permits, etc?

I will just reiterate though, given a few people have allegedly posted their last posts, that in my experience, the more educated, travelled and informed the Scot is, the less likely they are to be caught up in the independence furore. Just saying as i find.

I dont think that Scotland can stand on its own financially. When talk of independence first gathered pace it was no secret that an independent nation would have to rely heavily on the EU and Im not sure that this can have changed a great deal.

Irrelevant to me though, because I believe that Scotland needs England as England needs Scotland. Both countries are far bigger together than the sum of their parts if separated.

Well i'm proud of the United Kingdom, proud to be British, and Dark Ages reasons for breaking it up sadden me, that's about as succinct as i can make it.

I'm educated, travelled and extremely informed. I'm far from caught up in it, however I do think that it can work. And I'm prepared to take the chance.

 

DD, yep, you're at the other end of the spectrum where it doesn't matter if the sums add up, like Mr Bond, so you might as well go for the ideological dream. I get that, i really do.

 

It's not dark ages reasons though. It's financial, tax and legal independence more than anything.

We would still be neighbours, allies and ( dare I say it) friends. Businesses that operate north and south of the border would still do so. Trade links wouldn't change.

It's not as big a thing as many would try and convince otherwise

And for those reasons, it just doesn't make sense to change what's worked well in the modern era for many years, in my opinion. "Scotland are independent". Hoorah. The United Kingdom no longer exists. Sad day. And for what? Ideological Scots. As you say it's pointless discussing it with me because my views are entrenched, mainly from having spoken at length to a fair few of "your lot" to get both sides of the argument. If it happens it happens, and i guess we'll have to re-convene then to discuss the ramifications.
