New BMW 4 series

The only restricted servicing is within the extended warranty period - after the first 3 years.
You have to use Porsche for servicing then, which is the same for my old L200.
That's under extended warranty and I have to use Mitsubishi for servicing.
It's not just Porsche doing it.
If you want to service it elsewhere then just don't extend the warranty!
This electric steering - have you driven the new Porsche cars with it for any length of time?
I have - had a 991 cab for 24hrs and a 981S for 24 hrs.
Unless you're some kind of Walter Rohl clone, there's no issue with the steering.
99.9% of Porsche buyers won't give a stuff and won't be able to tell the difference!
Anyway, the 991 really is a fantastic car (even Trout has swapped his GT3RS for one), but I won't be partaking in one.

What did Trout get? That's the third person I thought had the perfect car (GT3 RS) then sold it!
I'm sure it's great overall, I just don't like electrically assisted steering. I think I'm allowed that opinion ;-)

The point I didn't get across is that the Porsche electric steering feels quite normal, and in no way like that crap that Honda bestowed on the Civic Type R.
Trout also doesn't see any issues with it, and coming from an RS I think that's a good endorsement.

Fair enough. My experience is mainly from driving a 330d (electric) back to back with my 335d (non electric); the difference is very noticeable. Porsche are more likely to have sorted it though and it does make a fairly large difference to emissions and mpg having electric systems.
I'm just being an old fart.

So Trouty has changed his GT3 RS for a PDK 991?? I thought he always went on about real drivers cars need a manual box and how easy the GT3 RS was to live with as a daily driver??
It's a lovely looking car though, and a real shame he doesn't post here anymore. I'd like to see him back

Just picked up the Alpina from having the new DMF and clutch fitted.
I had a new 318d on loan from BMW whilst mine was being done - having driven them back to back I've just realised how terrible the electric steering is in the new one compared to my hydraulic!
If they all come with that steering I certainly won't be buying a new BMW anytime soon.
It felt nothing like the Porsche steering.

Zip - glad it's not just me then; it really spoils the cars IMO. Maybe BMW just can't "do" electric steering as well? I need to drive a 991 to convince myself it's not all bad. I also need to drive one because they look good.
I'm sure the camper has it (it's not exactly a "drivers" machine despite the AWD) but it doesn't really matter in that. There certainly is naff all feedback. Built for comfort though, not speed.

Yes the 5 series has electric steering but the M5 does not.
It's hilarious because all the things BMW say are steps forward and essential ie electric steering, run flats, adaptive suspension are all ditched by M branch.
All the car rags say that the M5 actually rides more comfortably than a standard 5 series, surprise surprise.
A combination of this inert steering and rubbish ride is really p1ssing me off, I need to get rid of this car. It's making my c8ck shrink.

And the poster who was rude, was a newbie anyway
Obviously I am not privy to anything that was not posted on the forum etc – but nothing stood out as particularly aggressive or nasty, just a bit w4nkish
I think he just got tired of the general level of negativity and bullsh1tting on the forum and decided it was time to move on
But I could be wrong

Hodgy - I'm not surprised really, he did get a lot of flack from goons with a chip and three quarters; same on any forum really.
It appears any vRS Skoda is crushingly superior to any BMW ever made, the Golf can be tuned to 350bhp for about £10 and then becomes a 911 basher and the Ford Mondeo outclasses the 3 series (even top end) at everything...
Oh and an MX5 is the best car ever made and far more desirable than a Cayman/Boxster/insert nice RWD sports car here...
Ding - agreed but it seems RFTs are now optional on most BMWs (the single most stupid thing BMW EVER did). A shame hydraulic steering is M car only now. The E9* 335d and 335i also had it (none of the rest did) as well as the M3.

I do like that 4 series, the new gt will be that model I was told too, the 4 series hatch.
When I booked these 2 bmws I've got now the sales guy told me all about these 4s don't think you'll see them till at least end of next year. I might hold out for one. But they really need to give 4wd an option. I don't know how you get on matte and you ding in them 3.5s
This one I've got the 330d has nearly 600nm of torque and it pulls like a train, but Jesus traction is crap, every time I pull out I'm spinning lol. You two must hate it sometimes in the wet.
I got the lux model today and the 5 series is by far the better inside much more lush, better seats comfy, 3 just looks tackyish, but the engine is awesome.
If I could get it in 4wd I'd have one, but I think at this rate I'm gonna hold onto my scoob till at least that 4 comes out then reevaluate

The M135i is being tested against some serious kit and coming out very well, the M3 wins everything, the M5 is doing well, the 4 pot diesels are astonishing for their bhp to mpg ratio and they manage to handle well by sticking to the (cr4p in snow) RWD formula.
If they do this with a V8, I'm saving for one.

Sure some will argue about the 'purity' of RWD, but meh...I just want to stomp on it throttle at a very wet and busy junction and know I can pull away quickly without any drama, instead of being a stitting duck when the traction control kicks in whilst a 40ton artic truck bears down on me.
