New BMW 4 series

Ok, it's the concept but if the production car looks like this it will be tasty.

The M4 should look gorgeous and go really well. Twin (or even triple?) turbo, V8 with 450 BHP and a DCT box.

Wish it was out now, I'd seriously think about buying one.

A 6 series that's been in a hot wash?

That's no bad thing. The 6 series looks quite nice, just too big to look elegant/sporty.

Matteeboy 05 December 2012 04:21 PM

Odd that they've decided the 3 series coupe is now a 4 series!

Does look good and should go rather well.

Trippie 05 December 2012 04:45 PM

Audi A5/Merc AMG

Brun 05 December 2012 04:51 PM

With Matteboy here - they surely can't sell that along side the 3 series coupe?

Brun, that is the 3 series coupe, for some strange reason they've decided to call it the 4 series from now on.

Trippie by name Trippie by nature?

Are you just listing random cars or do you have a point to make?

LSherratt 05 December 2012 05:50 PM

All these BMW varieties are really starting to bore me now

Ahhhhhhhh, that'll teach me to read things other than just look at the pretty pictures :D

Had me confused when I first read about it. It's just basically a marketing ploy to stop people thinking this is basically 3 series with 2 doors (which it is)

In this way they probably think they will make it more aspirational/desirable and probably increase the price!

Funkii Munkii 05 December 2012 07:31 PM

Does look nice and the front lamps are certainly an improvement on the saloon, the new 3 must be the ugliest so far.

M4 should be a hoot

The E92 was a lot more than the saloon so you're probably right.

Much as I'm aware that being a BMW fanboi is as popular as managing a Jimmy Saville charity (and they do make a few shockers), they do seem to come up with hit after hit. The M135i is being tested against some serious kit and coming out very well, the M3 wins everything, the M5 is doing well, the 4 pot diesels are astonishing for their bhp to mpg ratio and they manage to handle well by sticking to the (cr4p in snow) RWD formula.

If they do this with a V8, I'm saving for one.

hodgy0_2 05 December 2012 10:54 PM

Very nice

The side view has design queues from the Ferrari 456

Jimpreza 06 December 2012 08:25 AM

Ding - the M won't have a V8. Probably a straight six turbo'd.

alloy 06 December 2012 09:21 AM

Thats a decent looking coupe, M variant will be interesting

ScoobyJawa 06 December 2012 10:54 AM

Looks nice that :)

stilover 06 December 2012 01:02 PM

I like it. Just wish they'd bring their AWD cars to the UK.

Yes, you are right. It is indeed meant to be a turbocharged straight six.:thumb:

Jim, is this a car you might be considering to replace your current M3 with?

Jimpreza 06 December 2012 05:03 PM

It certainly will be. I won't be making the same mistake as last time by getting the one under the M version then chopping it in for the M3............... Unless it doesn't have runflats :). I'll see what the M looks like when it is released.

I also quite like the idea of a second hand 991 Carrera S but I think it may feel a bit underpowered compared to the new M3/4.

Matteeboy 06 December 2012 06:46 PM

Run flats are now on option on all decent BMs. At last.

Yes, that is an issue. Though I appreciate the 991 brings other strengths to the table, £80k+ for 400 BHP just doesn't seem to make sense when the M4 will have 450 BHP for circa £50k.

As I said I appreciate it's not all about BHP by any means but you don't seem to get much power for your £ with Porsche

Jimpreza 06 December 2012 09:44 PM

I agree Ding. I'll probably bottle the 991 as the nearest dealership is 55 miles away compared to 10 for BMW, after reading stories on Pistonheads the dealers seem to just want to rape ones wallet and the 991 may not be practical enough as I have a teenage daughter and wife to ferry around. The Pork does look lovely imo though.

Matteeboy 06 December 2012 09:53 PM

Porsche also seem rather adept at wriggling out of warranty claims citing incredibly restricted service requirements.

I still want a 997 turbo S though. 991s electric steering is a real shame.

bighead 06 December 2012 10:06 PM

991 will lose less £££ than the Bmw :)...in the long run , if you can run one get one :), when i was changing car , the C63 amg and the 997 was on the list ...decided on the E90 M3, now i'd wish i gone with 997C4S( dont get me wrong the "M" is a great car ), just dont stirred the emotions as my P1 do.

carterv3typeR 06 December 2012 10:50 PM

Shame they aren't doing a v8 model. They've even stopped making the 3.0 n/a petrol. Just doing bigger 4 pot turbo patrols now along with the twin turbo 6 pot. The e92 m3 with dct was rapid. Nice close ratios
