great work mate ure doing alot of work to restore that i no alot of people would of just got rid or broken it up be worth it though wen ure finished

I nee to do all for arches so just going to buy panels from a breaker cut the plate out so its am easy fit. Weld on smooth over and get my bud to clue match as best he can till I can afford a full respray , my local breaker has a panel for me just wondered how much I should expect to pay , thanks once again , true gentleman.

thanks man , yeah she should be looking sweet once im finished , ill update the pics as i go but weathers pretty harsh atm so unfortunatly layong under the car is at the bottom of my priorities lol! please follow me as i go !

If the front wings are rotten, just get replacements. They're only bolted in place. Also all classic front arches are the same, so the year car the come from is irrelevant.

The fonts are fine they have been protected buy the shed buy the rears are goosed! I'm in need or rather I want a rear strutt brace! You know anyone letting one go cheaply?

Anyone know the lengths of the rear break pipes ? Just from the block situated under the rear bench to the calipers ? Any help would really be appreciated !

Don't know the length, but, they're be quite long.

Have dropped the fuel tank, rear subframe etc? They over to the top of the tank, IIRC.

Had mine done recently, but, I can't remember which way they were routed. I'll have a look tomorrow if it's dry.

m8 ive just dropped the subframe and diff carrier out of mine too **** me what a fight eh ! corrosions bad under there - anybody with a nice classic better get on with it now or i reckon another 5 years most will have had it

Mines was a mess underneath mate but I dropped the crossmember diff disconnected the prop and removed the tank because mine was rusty , got a new subframe and alloy lateral links , poly bushed the lot new tank alloy trailing arms again poly bushed, whiteline arb and drop links painted all the underneath and ready to undersell the lot but I need replacement brake pipes and as I'm working from the garden I can't take it to the adage , I have flaring tool and pop but don't know the right lengths , and unroll them I can put it all back together as the brake lines ran over the tank , is there anywear I can even get maybe braided flexi style lines as apposed to copper ones? I will get all the pics up in one long post just shortly mick I know your following this thread mate but I have a lot to upload lol

im at exactly the same stage as you m8 all my bits are at the blaster at the mo and im powder coating the arms ive ordered all the polybushes up - how scary was the fuel filler neck - **** me i thought mine was fine - what a mess it was in - my rear arches are gone too but il sort the cosmetic side out later il measure the brake pipe for you tonight m8 as ive just put new ones on mine

Yes mate that would be absolutely amazing ! Ill send you a wee on just to remind you, if you scroll threw the photos you'll see my duller neck split in to 2 halls , rust ate right threw it , rear arches are bad on mine to the degree the bumper clip has eroded to nothin and the bumped now hangs on with dear life ! I still have to sills to weld to Whitchurch will be a pain! Iv never Schultz driven the car but from what my old man said it goin to be a little rough for daily use now that everything's stiff, the poly bushes are f**kin expensive tho! I managed to pick up a set off eBay brand new for the front wishbones for £30 that to buy individually worked out to be around 200 from my main retailer ! But again would really really appreciate the standards pipe length !

Right my man with my hi tech measuring equipment ( a piece of string) i measure from the spliiting block to the nearside flexi hose fitting 190cm and from splitter to offside one 102cm - the offside one goes beyond the fitting then doubles back to it - hope thats pf some use il post some pics of mine once i get it all back together good luck with yours

Thanks a lot my good friend , you don't understand how Much I appreciate that ... Like to see the parts once they have all been powder coated bud be nice to have somemore ideas ! Good luck , don't cry , and resist the temptation to give up, even the it will cost you a tenner just to look at the thing for the next god nose how Lin but will e worth it I'm sure !

Getting there - Powder coating the lateral arms and brackets next and polybushes are on the way - tough job this dont take it on lightly but its getting to be worth it now

if only it was the horns left to fit!

Iain, were the diff carrier and subframe prepped in any way before coating?

The finish looks rather pitted, like it's been applied over rust. Could just be the picture and my eye sight though.

its been blasted clean of rust im afraid if you take a blaster to most classics this is what you will find under the crap - this comes from my car that ive owned for years and looks pretty fantastic from the outside - the parts have all been sprayed with zinc etching primer so will do for now - its a tricky balance between restoration and new parts - wish i could afford to buy all new parts but thats not the case im afraid

Looking good mate , mick mines looks the exact same with the (pitting) finish , I had it all sand blasted before painting and it looks rough but only from close inspection, finally managed to get the momo wheel on. That btw is a task! Citing clock spring plugs to fit airbags , can't change while clock springs because indicator stocks are different ect , nightmare but looks pretty nice in comparison to the bus wheel! Iain feel free to stuck your posts up mate and pics as well , we're in the same boat and and at a very similar stage but the looks of things ! There may be things you have discovered that I haven't and vice versa! Just another question whilst I'm here , anybody got rear abs cables and housing to fit a 97 classic? That's all I need ten the **** can go back on her and I can begin to weld and cut arches ect ... Still haven't touched the front but got alloy arms and poly bushes h brace anti lift kit white line links and anti roll bar so it's going to be stiff once it's all done , thanks for all the comments guys the praise really does help regardless of what anyone says , nice to see people are genuinely interested and taking there time to read over and have a good old look! Anybody's wants to know or see intruding in particular send me a message and ill happily oblige , thanks once again everyone.

Really pissed off .. Sat simse 5pm updating all this photo tags ect a few quick diys for you guys on things iv done ect and askign for some advice was about 12characters long and my laptop froze when i tried to copy it all incase it was to delete or anything jusmping for page to page and iv lostit all sorry guys will ipdate when i have another 3 hours of my life free haha

Pleased you got the steering wheel fitted, Jordan.

Don't worry about the pictures, like Simon says just do a few smaller updates instead of a huge one.

Good that you cracking on with it, it will be worth it mate.

Well heres the wheel conversion .. Pending airbag plug in because im a little nervous as i had to cut and re wire to the other spring

il add one more thing ive found lads then il step out of this as jordan has a cracking thread here - but this might help you out m8 - subaru have used metric extra fine on a lot of the chassis bolts - if your planning replacing them its m12x1.25 pitch not the usual fine size of 1.5 pitch

Yeah its not great and its not got that professional look but i done it myself and quite proud of the outcome...
