My car is always in its heated garage. When it does go out its cleaned upon return most often. Its waxed with Autoglym hd wax. I have fitted hot and cold water taps outside my garage,my pressure washer is run off the hot water tap (garage has its own combi boiler). I use the lance to foam up,then pressure wash off with hot water.I then start at roof level washing each panel(2 buckets and mitt) then pressure wash each panel as washed.Wheels last and exhaust pipes.Cars then taken into garage dried with leather, inc all door shuts etc,I then use fast detailer allow to dry then fit dust cover.I also do a little hoover same time. Clay, isnt needed the car doesnt get dirty enough, besides which Subaru paint marks too easily for clay,on this gen anyway.

All that effort and you dry the car with a leather??

And any polishing/sealing the paint?

Its a brand new car,it doesnt need polishing if its kept clean, you polish it when the paints contaminated. As I said its waxed with Autoglym hi def,you dont wax a car everytime its used, hence the detailing spray. As for the leather scoff away it works well if you know how to use it,if the paints dry, clean and streak free whats to be gained ?

Ha, no scoffing here but I wouldn't use a leather on new, used or £500 car. And yes I do wax the car every time I wash it. Polish, maybe every 6 months but I'd rather have plenty of coats of wax.

To say you have a brand new car, heated garage and water taps but you dry it with a leather, seems a bit pointless. In my humble opinion of course.

I use microfibre cloths for everything else, but as yet I havnt bought a drying cloth as my leather seems to work well...even under my fussy lights. Does a drying cloth work that much better? If so recommend me a good one

I've been using a drying cloth for a few months and I'd never go back to a chamois now. I like the way it draws water out of small nooks and crannies which my old chamois wouldn't do.

I noticed B&Q had a '3 for 2' offer on large yellow Kent drying cloths this lunchtime, at £3.98 each (so for three for £7.96). Mine is actually a small JML one from Wilkinsons.

Give them a try, I'm sure you'll be pleased you did.

Incidentally, if your car's a dark metallic, try Turtle Wax Ice Paste wax. I love the stuff, it doesn't leave any white residue, you can use it one everything except your glass and tyres and it's much cheaper than Autoglym HD.

I personally use a waffle weave towel as recommended by Polished Bliss and other detailers. I'm not OCD or anything like that with my 13 year old Impreza but the waffle weave for me works better than anything I've used for drying. You literally pat the car with it, fold it over abd pat again. And due to its design and weave as it were, it may feel wet but it'll soak up a full cars worth of water continuously without having to wring out.

About £10 maybe £15 max but better than any microfibre, silicon blade or leather I've used.

I've used the HD wax for years too, good stuff at a reasonable price too. Like Autoglym and Poorboys products personally.

I use that spray wax from Auroglym too with decent results on a silver car.

As much as I do love my Poorboys products, you want to try this on silver some time.

It's ideal for winter protection

Even works well on Azure Blue, as it turns out.

Not a bad effort but your money would have been better spent on one of these. This is THE daddy of drying towels

Do you have to wring them out like a chamois or will it do a car in one without wringing?

Regardless you still need to protect your paintwork especially with the salt and crap on the roads in the colder months.
