Edd, your wife is fortunate in having a decent chap like you to fight her corner. If they have kept a room in Withybush then I am sure you will fight hard to get her back there and good luck with that. Completely understand that you don't want to upset anyone but please stand your ground. Can you get support from say her GP with this?
Hope all goes as well as it can. David

Mate praying for you and your family. We have a 6 month old kid, my wife lost a lot of blood...too much blood post birth, had to start making some tough decisions but she pulled through and I am sure whatever happens you will do the same.

The health and welfare of your wife and child come before anything. If you do unfortunately upset the prof, then so be it, but I'd like to think all involved should be able to see that you aren't out to get them per-se, but are looking out for your wife and child.
I hope that you can get it resolved and your wife goes back to the previous ward where it sounds as though they were better prepared to take care of her. Birth is stressful enough without the added burden here.

Edd, Our thoughts are with you and yours - I am sure that now it has been discovered you will get the best possible treatment and she will make a full recovery going on to leading a normal life yet again.
You just need to be strong for her during the course of events.
Wishing you well.
Paul.

Try and stay strong mate. One of my best buddies who I saw last night - has a wife with cancer and she is getting better. Its been tough but she is getting alot better. So there is allways hope.
We are all thinking of you at this difficult time.

Just seen this thread. So sorry to hear this Edd. Totally sucks!
Don't worry about upsetting the Prof; the welfare of your wife comes first and if you don't think she is receiving the right level of care that is the immediate concern. The prof will certainly understand and if you keep him informed may be able to make some waves for you!!
My thoughts are with you at this awful time!

Saw this thread for the first time yesterday but didn't get a chance to reply. Genuinely sorry to read this mate, I don't know what to say We've conversed a few times on here and you're a top bloke Edd, don't worry about upsetting the prof (he will understand) and as has been said, stick to your guns. Wish you and the wife all the best.

Just popped in to provide an update on whats been happening with us. Long post ahoy!
Alot has happened since my last post on the 12th November.
On the 16th November at 3.55pm our baby daughter was born via a C Section under a general anesthetic. She weighed 3.8lb and apparently quite a tidy size for 10 weeks premature. We'd been a book showing prem babies and was expecting her to be alot smaller. Eva-Ellen Marie Scott. Eva as it supposedly means miracle and my wife wanted this as she feels that without having become pregnant, her condition would have taken even longer to be discovered. Ellen as that was my wifes grandmothers name and Marie which is my wifes middle name. No complications although she had to have a little morphine for a couple of days to ween her off it due to the high levels Kelly had been on to cope with the pain in her hip.
We were in a 2 bed bay and as there was no one in the other bed they pushed the two beds together and let me stay Friday and Saturday night. Once the hospitals had a handle on how bad Kelly was they were able to deal with her but it always took 12 to 24 hours for them to get on top of it - but they did.
The pain was horrendous on Saturday and Sunday so much so that it took us an hour to move her from the wheel chair onto a bed - having to wait for the Oromorph to kick in - she cleaned out 2 wards of the stuff that weekend. She was moved to Morriston on the Sunday and again we had a traumatic time moving her with the new hospital were not advised just how bad Kelly was. When we were moving her I was trying to hold her leg straight and I felt two very deep cracks. I was beside myself as I was convinced I'd snapped her hip. In hindsight it turns out it was just her ankle cracking as they tend to do from time to time but with exhaustion and everything else I felt sure I'd done even more damage than the cancer.
Lunchtime on the 19th Kelly had her right hip replaced. Operation was fine and doc popped his head in that evening and said he was happy the procedure went well. Kelly was very upset at first because she thought something had gone wrong. Fortunately as the drugs wore off she became a bit more coherent - she doesn't really remember being in Morriston and she was there a week. Luck not being on my side one evening returning to the car I find a puddle of oil dripping out the right exhaust and my cars turbo chose that time to blow its seal and spew the contents of the engine out the exhaust. Nice!
Having been moved back to Singleton to be with the baby, Kelly had another couple of weeks there before everyone was happy for both of them to move to the local hospital Withybush. Kelly didn't really want to go onto an oncology ward as she wanted to be close to Eva and with christmas coming so soon and not really knowing exactly what we were facing we chose not to tell our 11 year old daughter. We didn't want her going onto the ward and seeing the reference to cancer and working it out. The ambulance took Eva one Saturday morning and was supposed to take Kelly. They didn't for some odd reason and Kelly rang to take her back myself - under hospital agreement. By the time I get there the registrar in charge of maternity in withybush on the day said he wasn't prepared to take Kelly back as she wasn't pregnant any more and should go to oncology. Lots of phone calls later and what was termed a "revolt" by the nurses in maternity against the registrar, the nurses insisted Kelly come back and have the big side room she was in before being moved to Swansea. We never did find out who it was that dug their heels in but we owe them one for that.
It wasn't until a week or so before Christmas that the final results were in from the biopsy of the bone removed from the hip and it was confirmed that she was primary renal cell cancer with secondary bone metastasis. The medication prescribed is a form of Chemo tablet rather than having the intravenous Chemo which she takes every day and then a myriad of other tablets in order to counteract the side effects of the tablet. The meds make her very sleepy and shes sick quite often so its going to take some time to fine tune the dose.
Eva was discharged on Christmas Eve so we were at least all home for christmas. We had a couple of teething problems so having had about an hour of sleep all night I spent christmas day morning back up the hospital but nothing serious and shes absolutely fine. She was weighed a couple of days ago at 6.10lb so getting a bit chunky now.
The hip replacement has been great and doesn't really hurt that much just now. One thing I am surprised with is that she hasn't had any request for a check up or physio or anything like that. Still it seems to have done the job.
Our current issue is that the left leg is starting to play up now and causing pain. From what we've been told the met isn't in the hip this time but on the wing of the pelvis (the Illium I think its called) and this is pushing on a nerve causing pain. Kelly is awaiting radiotherapy sessions so fingers crossed this helps with the pain.
So I guess that is where we are right now. I can't describe how hard its been for all of us. Kelly is struggling a bit with all the meds she is on and although she can be left on her own I don't like leaving her very long. Fortunately her parents are helping out.
We don't know what the future holds and we don't know what is round the corner. Hopefully the radiotherapy will do some good and hopefully over the next few months her CT scans will show the medication is working. We can do nothing else but hope for the best right now.

Thanks for the update and congratulations on your new baby daughter
Must be a real roller coaster for you all, hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel even if it seems like a long way away at the moment.
Best wishes to Kelly for her treatment.

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter, I'm so glad everything seems as if its starting to come together for you, and the baby is well and healthy lets hope Kelly is out of the rough of it all sooner rather than later, she has had quite an ordeal over the last few months, what a brave woman for keeping strong! Its never nice going through an ordeal like that to which I can only imagine, and one you and your family will only know, keep strong and plenty of positive thoughts.
All the best for the future bud
