Is the market really this bad?
I went off your post, went and read the advert and I said it put me off
now you're saying the bidder hasn't come forward
im out
it might be a good motor, you just dont sell it me
Well, then pay up - simples.
As Pete has pointed out, a car isn't worth more than what someone is willing to pay for it. Holding out for non-existent buyers isn't making a car more valuable, it's being a delusional seller.
I see loads of cars sticking around at prices way above what the market value actually is. No doubt the sellers are unwilling to drop the price because a) the car owes them a lot of money, b) the car is special because it's got <something> etc etc (it very rarely is...).
In actual fact, what happens is that the sellers reduce the prices in drips and drabs, and end up selling for less than what they would have got had they priced the car correctly in the first place as the market has had time to drop further (+ the car is older etc etc). The alternative is that the seller doesn't sell at all.
There are tonnes of used subarus around. They're *really* expensive to run nowadays, so of course they're going to be worth **** all. There are not enough "enthusiasts" who don't care about the running costs to support high prices for these cars, hence the price drops.

Irondrew....in relation to the car yes this is what happens when you put your foot down, he has not said he has ripped teh sh*t out of it but simply what the car does on throttle....again let try and stick to the thread topic and not wonder the **** offf
you stated the advert text was good
I didnt think it was and maybe that was why you (or someone else) didnt get what was expected
**** jokey, lol
I have to agree that an ad can either put you off or sell you a car. They are expensive to run year in year out and really more of a second car or toy these days than a run around.
Let's come clean about it - the Advert write up was awful, awful size too ..... add to this the fact that the seller is a dealer spurting drivel about the car and it's a big turn off.
Then, of course, there is the slight issue of trying to sell the unsaleable ....... which is the biggest hurdle, no-one wants them anymore.

BUT, more people have sold and moved on than those joining and wishing to buy .... there are hundreds of Impreza's for sale, but few buyers.
I bought my Impreza in May 2000 - brand new - had to join a waiting list and pay the RRP too!! I owned it for a bit over 10 years and loved every moment ........ however, those halcyon days have been and they have gone - it cannot be described as the ultimate performance machine that it was back in the day.
It's sad, but times move on ..... the joiners now are a decade too late in buying the dream.

Yeah, it was quick, but ultimate - nah, don't think so
I take your point - and, yes, there are still those who want these cars.

As an Impreza owner I'm happy with that, less people have them so I am more unique
. Also any classic car has to have its slump, its peak of worthlessness so people scrap them or sell them for peanuts. My only worry is the rate people are restoring the 2 doors, and scrapping the 4, possibly the 4 door will be the rare version in years to come, and I've just sold one.
As for performance, well that's just progress for you, not many pre-1990 cars would keep up with a scoob. Not many cars now will keep up with the standard cars of 2025.
