Great graphs Shaun which clearly show the potential differences between all three turbos.

Can you use an aftermarket TMIC?

My 2.1 using an Owen Developments Twin Scroll has 460BHP/470Lbft with the same spool as a VF37 on a Chevron Motorsport TMIC, currently mapped at 1.75BAR.

There is no need to go FMIC if you can afford a top quality TMIC, even over 500BHP

They do two versions, you could always ask them.

TBH my current set up is awesome I suggest I spend the extra cash enjoying trackdays and perhaps a visit to the Nurburgring!

Not as "awesome" as mine.

But anyway, this thread is not about you or I, it's about the OP and his issue of having to retain a TMIC, there are options there for him that work if he wishes to persue them.

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated.

Unfortunately I need to keep the standard TMIC as everything needs to look standard to pass a visual inspection (turbo should be ok since most of it is hidden behind the heat sheild...)

Could you not swap the TMIC between inspections? Unlike a FMIC it's a 10 minute job to swap out and involves no changes to the car at all. I doubt anyone without good knowledge would notice the difference anyway.

Not sure on current retail cost of the top spec Item. They do 2 versions.

The top spec version uses a core material that is used by current F1 teams to make their heat exchangers from, it is UK manufactured. You will not find a more eficient core material, which is hand made so expensive to produce.

Hi John, what bore/stroke does your end up with with your 2.1 set up? I'm guessing it's a stroker kit?

Did you run the same turbo on the stock 2.0L, if so, how much earlier was the spool with the 2.1L?

I cannot change the top mount either. I must keep it on the standard TMIC. I can make some modifications to the airbox to reduce the restriction there, that's about it.

Fortunately, I have the auto mode for the intercooler, which should help keep the temps down.

Personally I'd stick with the LM400 then.

My 2.1 uses the 2.5 crank, manley rods (same length as stock) and Mahle 92.5mm bore 2618 pistons.

I had already gone 2.1 by the time i got round to doing the turbo with Owen Devs, but did a back to back with my VF37 on the 2.1 and the spool is identical to that. https://www.scoobynet.com/showpost.p...7&postcount=81

Plenty of info in the thread above.

I didnt find much improvement on spool going 2.1 over the 2.0 with the VF37, peak torque came in 200rpm earlier but it also ran out of puff sooner so top end power hardly changed. It gained approx 1.6% power, 7.5% torque.

Owen can do different specs of turbo, Paulo Spec C is running a slightly smaller version of mine on a stock 2.0l spec C engine, seemed to go quite well at the last MLR Sprint.

Thanks for the link John. Will take me some time to finish and digest the info there.

Just realised the bore and stroke of yours is exactly the same as some if not all 2.2L stroker kits.

If there wasn't much change in spool or power, what is the main benefit in your opinion would the 2.1 or some call it 2.2 be compared to the 2.0? The average gain in torque?

The advantage in the 2.1 stroker, Suberman - is the torque. It also then gives you more choice of turbos and better spool when it comes to upgrading to bigger turbos.

Maybe a stupid question: but on a JDM Sti we have the nitrided crank, but when we go to a 2.1 stroker and use a 2.5 crank, that is not nitrided??

Not being able to "afford" and being "tight" are totally different Mark. It's not that you can't afford it, it's that you're too tight!

Mark,
I wouldn't argue with your logic:

You've learnt how to blow engines up, which I certainly haven't learnt!!
