Anyway, it's not a point scoring competition, use a K&N with a MAF if it makes you feel better. All I'm saying is, I have had a MAF contaminated by a K&N and so have others.

Why did Subaru get Pipercross to design them a dry foam filter that specifically "avoids damage to MAFs" ????

It's your money, do what you want.
The Cosworth and the Litchfield are modded Subaru's.

6 Scoob's in 8 years, Impreza's, Foggy and a Leggy and always used a K&N and never melted or needed to change a MAF. That's my evidence and no doubt other people have had bad experiences. **** happens.

Removing the resonator was a mod some people did some while ago but leaving the intake in place to feed cool air to the inner wing.
Unfortunately, although I have the resonator here, I have re-used the intake (in much modified form) to feed air to the cone filter. You could however, rig up an air duct tube from behind the fog lamp cover to the entry to the air box, in the inner wing. Having said that, I would imagine there's someone on here with the intake going spare and maybe an OEM or aftermarket re-circ. dump valve.

Good call, I will see if anyone has a spare intake and OEM re-circ valve.

Sadly I think the car has done 5,000 - 10,000 miles with a poorly set/non functioning dump valve.

Not an ideal match at all
- Sorry I know this makes me a knit-picking troll, but I just couldn't leave it alone... Infact dear Sir, I have found that chavs and burberry go together like, bread and butter, beans on toast ....flies on... yeah. It almost seems to be some kind of blummin uniform for 'em! Along with tucking their 'trackie bottoms' into their socks - WHY?! Have they all just finished a mass-football match or something?

Sorry, rant over. Feel like a right precious princess now. Chavs! Bless 'em! Grr.

Back on topic, OP, if you like you're BOVs then fair does - have you thought about a hybrid one, like the item made by GFB from Austrailia? You can set (manually) how much waste boost pressure is vented to atmosphere and how much is actually recirculated back into the system (as per the oem recirc valve). A lot of folks that by them simply set them to 50/50. The result: you still get you're odd noise (albeit, quieter/not as harsh) and to all intense purposes, you still have your recirc system there too so as not to upset your MAF, ruin your idle, and so on.

I'll stress though - no, I don't have one of these (or a BOV, however I will hold hands up to having a BOV on a previous car, in the past) nor can I personally vouch for one or it's abilities. I'm just a geek that's read a bit about them.

Incidentally - anybody here who may have a concern about overboosting (have you just removed all you cats for example?) GFB also make a thing called the 'turbo fuse' - still reading up on it, seems like a great little idea.

OP, looking at your pics there - were you referring to the OEM 'intake' that leads from just above the grill to the airbox being missing?

Yep. Seems odd that the airbox would be left as stock but the in take removed. It does seem to result in a very warm wheel arch after enthusiastic driving!

I am pretty keen to go back to a OEM in take and re-circ valve.
