strange question I guess I already know the answer to.
I am gobsmacked that if you saw a bloke in a bedroom window with one of these in his arms:

not even part of you would consider it was real and that maybe it was slightly suspicious.
oh well, id rather be tagged as big brother or OTT or anything if I question why he has one.

This morning I was doing a bit of posing in front of the mirror with my new replica Wallace & Grommit .364 I got from ebay when I noticed my next door neighbour spying on me through his window in the reflection.
I wasn't wearing much as it was still early, but fortunately I had the essentials covered up; now I'm wondering how many other times he's spied on me or our other neighbours?!
He was in what I think is his daughters room, and if he likes to watch me while I'm getting dressed it raises questions about how safe his kids are! What we he doing in her room at that time in the morning anyway?
He seems harmless enough and there's probably an innocent explanation, but still... would you report it to the police so they can check into the safety of the kids, or just presume its nothing and ignore it??

I'm not interested in arguing. I'm concerned that my response is now anything but typical. In fact, my reserved - benefit of the doubt - approach is entirely the minority view in our society, as evidenced by the input you have received in your thread thus far.
My reason for posting, is for fear of you heavily impacting on the life of another person simply because you have subscribed to years of sensationalist journalism - albeit, as an unwitting victim.
My reason for posting is because I want you to stop for a moment and run some basic logic and maths questions before reporting what would be viewed as a very serious offence. Specifically, there is circa 60M people living in this country in relative harmony and we have one of the lowest rates of gun crime anywhere in the world.
Keeping that in mind, what do you suppose the ratio of people mucking about in front of their mirror with a fake/model/toy guy or knives or other weapon is to the number of people doing so with a real weapon immediately before going on a rampage through the town centre?
10,000:1? 100,000:1? 1M:1? 10M:1? 100M:1? Statistically speaking, how likely is it? Taking account of all the [admittedly weird people] pissing around in front of mirrors in their own homes, do you really consider one gun rampage in the UK every, what, 5-10 years on average to be anything other than purely mathematically inevitable in a population of some 60M people.
You might hold the view that IF he is a danger and you pre-empt his acts then you have saved a great many lives. While that might be true on this occasion, you could never prevent said rampages from happening every now and again. However, in order to attempt to prevent it you'd need every do-gooding nosey ******* in the country stomping all over everybody else's civil liberties in a state of constant presumption of guilt. The damage to society from that is likely to be far higher than a shooting every decade or so.
Despite my sharp tone, I hold no actual ill feeling towards you. I simply hope you take a moment to look beyond your own fence and consider how your actions might impact on the lives of other [mathematically speaking] innocent people.

In reality I think your response is more likely to be the actual response you would get if most people were involved directly. I.e. If it happened in "my" street, what would I do? I doubt the initial response would be the same.
I think the majority of people would automatically assume that it is a toy or model and think nothing more of it.
The classic sort of scenario that springs to mind is if you saw a recovery type vehicle picking up a car at the side of the road with no one else around and no official markings on it, I'm sure most people would not take any notice as they would automatically assume it is a legitimate recovery. I bet if you posted it on an Internet forum you would also get a fair share of people saying "you should have rung the police, I've heard of this sort of thing happening, the car may have been being stolen".
At the end of the day it's down to the individual to make their own decision (and the fact is the car may have been being stolen after all!
