Vectra 1.9 CDTi. 279 bhp and 437 lbs/ft. This is on a conservative rolling road. First visit there was a year last February. 216 bhp and around 375 lbs/ft from memory. I had done some work on the turbo, fitted a Hybrid GC8 GT (Not GT2) intended for a Classic STi. Since then I have experimented with other turbos etc. and have had a lot of fun along the way. The car looks standard apart from a set of alloys. It is faster on the road than any standard Subaru and showing a clean set of heels to BMWs, Audis and many sports cars is good fun.
I will find some graphs and put up a separate post if you are interested. It is Dawn's daily driver and still does over 50 mpg on a run tank to tan and well over 40 mpg on only local running.

Cheers for that. Nice to hear and very gratifying. I tell it like I believe it to be and if I get it wrong on an odd occasion which is a very odd occasion I am happy to say so. I remember how I felt when I got shafted when I was new to the Subaru community 12 or 13 years ago. That won't happen again as the perpetrator found out.
I was also told that 400 bhp would be impossible to get from a litre Subaru by the then "experts". If I did get it, it wouldn't last long, it would be undriveable and not a daily driver and it would be impossible to even try without a closed deck block. What a load of bollocks. It didn't take long to turn that upside down and I have applied the same logic and engineering knowledge and experience to modifying the Vectra. Much has been learned and it is always interesting seeing what works and what does not.

I've recently brought a lateral performance headers n added a Harvey trick up pipe to my Sti, the difference it has made r very noticeable! The quick spool up on my car has made massive difference on coming out of corners a lot quicker! Definitely recommend it! As your Looking towards 400bhp mark on your car, is your gearbox gona handle it? My old type r gearbox only managed to handle around the 360bhp mark!

That's brilliant, why am I driving a Subaru???? I'd really like to see the graphs and anything else (gearbox particles maybe ).

A good thread for 'other marques' surely!! Fantastic

out of interest harvey how long do you give people to return their old headers or do you also have a cost for wrapped ported OEM headers on a non exchange basis?

Three weeks seems like a fair time. Whatever headers I send out I want the same back eg. My97-00 headers I want MY97-00 headers back. 93-96 ditto. 01-06 ditto and so on.
Core charge on the above £40 if you want outright.

just remember wen you say (i dont think the car would be laggy as the gearing in the type r is so short,so im not concerned about lag) you probably won't be running that gearbox for long as your 20g will soon dismantle it for you

And then you'll be left with the long legs of a 6speed

Andy : Here are the graphs for Dawn's Vectra 1.9 CDTi. This is her daily driver.

This car has been progressively modified throughout the time my Wife has owned it. When I first visited RS Tuning in Leeds for a rolling road day 5 February 2011 we produced 216 bhp and power output has risen progressively as various different modifications were investigated, culminating in the current 280 bhp/430 odd ft.lbs.

At this present time we are not aware of anyone in Europe producing this power level on this engine and just like my initiation into Subarus many years ago now, this too was a journey into the unknonw.

Haha, that is fantastic! I know why Jeff speaks so highly of you now. As you say, the Vectra was and is the guinea pig and it's surprising what it's handling. Standard engine, gearbox? I bet she loves the weekly shop

I have fitted a set of Harvey OEM ported Headers and a slip jointed Up-pipe recently and the car now feels 10 times better. More torque, a quicker spool up, rev limiter goes higher up the rev range and car feels and drives alot better.Car seems to breath better when not even in boost but when you open it up, its lovely. Helpful guy and great product/s.
