And some folk like me can't grasp the written word as easy , I'm more monkey see monkey do
Coupled to the fact I'm probably the worlds worsed at trying to explain in writing
I know it's a pain to do it like I am and some folks can't make it but it will be a lot easier to grasp and if my mrs can be bothered we might even get a cuppa

Here goes my feeble atempt at trying to explain how to get started
1) download romraider ecu editor And ecu definitions
2) download ecu flash and defenitions
3)purchase tactrix cable
Install all downloaded software and defs onto lap top
Defs are zip files , unzip all defs and and install into ecu flash and romraider editor using the file manager tab at top
Connect cable to laptop and obd port , connect green test connectors under dash and a jumper wire to flash block connector ,
Go on ecu flash and select your model from the drop down
To get an idea (dont write to ecu )click read from ecu to see what's what
Turn ignition on (not start ) and before the fans start to cycle press ok
Let it do it's stuff and click ok (sometimes it may say voltage out of range , if so switch your rear window heater on same time as ignition ) ( timing is important )
Then you will have a copy of your map saved in ecuflash
Save your copy to desk top or wherever you can find it
(btw all files are hex , so if it don't show as a romraider icon on your desktop just add .hex after the name
Then go to romraider ecu program click on files select your file then it will open
And there you have your map , to do as you wish , then the fun starts
This is the very basic how to get started
If someone could post a link to romraider site (everything you need to know is on there ) when you get started please pop back here with your findings and map ideas or modded maps
It's a lot easier than it sounds , it's only as deep as you want to get
Forgot yet again , once you have downloaded the software you can down load other folks maps open em an look what's what , no need to connect to your car to do that ,,, you can just be a bit geeky and compare people's maps and get used to what's what
Cheers tony

It does get addictive lol ,,, you want to map your car every day because you can
Just take your time , when you do start to get into actual mapping go steady and note any changes you make
Have you got your software in and up and running ?

Ecuflash is a definate , and romraider is just the editing and logging software which you can use regardless of which cable you use
I'd personally get it all downloaded installed and set up , then when your cable comes your ready to roll

A mate has asked about o/s mapping his 99 classic , as far as I know you you can't
Options I know of are
Power FC
Daughter board /chip
Ecu swap
Ecutek
Now is the ecutek map software only or do they add any hardware ( daughter board , chip Ect
He wanted me to have a look but ecu flash doesn't support his ecu
What I was thinking if it is sofware only mapping and you had the defs could you use ecu flash like 01 onwards

As for ecutek I must say yes it's recognised as good but why lock your ecu to them and charge a licence fee , it's not on and a rip off
And folks fall for it
Just my opinion
