Thats understandable mate, you are being held back by the standard ecu at 1.5bar when there`s so much more to come from what you have if you fit an aftermarket ecu,you wont regret it bud.

I thought the 1.5 bar could be overcome on the standard ecu I'm still on standard ecu and have had boost reading at 2 bar before now, its currently set to 1.8 an tails off to 1.6 and holds it through to the redline.

So would you see an automatic gain in power with an aftermarket ecu?

It can but its dangerous and def not recomended, most mappers worth their salt wont go beyond 1.55bar on a standard ecu, something to do with controlling or monitoring boost safely iirc but not 100%,yes an aftermarket ecu can be mapped safely to what ever the mapper thinks is safe for that particular car.

Is there a difference between the jdm ecu and uk ecu with respect to boost levels? I can remember being told about the 1.5bar of boost in a post by the clinic I think it was explaining why they wouldn't go over it, I just assumed that perhaps things had moved on lol.

so as mine is a jdm car is that where the difference is?
cheers for the lesson

Check the facts and you'll end up changing that statement.

I have been running over 1.55bar for quite some time, as it's dependant on the ECU type and MAP sensor. You can go over 1.55bar safely on an OEM ECU.

I understood that an aftermarket ECU would give better boost control & be more stable & predictable, but I'm no mapper, I'm sure one will inform us soon enough.

And that's exactly how misinformation starts and becomes the truth. I can assure you my ecu and map sensor can read and be mapped above 1.55bar. Only some of the OEM setups are capable of this whilst retaining safety strategies. The important point is not all setups can be capable of this and it's knowing which are and how they can be utilised.

Substitute "would" with "may".

I have absolutely no issues running 480bhp on MAF on the OEM ECU.

Perhaps its a JDM thing,it wouldnt surprise me as they seem to be better cars in every other department than the uk counterparts, but i dunno for sure.

Good figures although I was surprised to see it seemed a bit laggy for a vf35? Japspeed headers perhaps?
Harvey up pipe FTW mate
Also how come your torque drops off so early would have expected that to hold a little longer?

Whats the most someone has done on a uk standard internals engine then and at what boost? Dont you require arp heads studs above 1.4 bar on a classic open deck?

Definitely this list should be broken down by meth and non meth as its no point stating standard internals but then be running meth additive. I suppose the same could be said for having mods, but these mods are required to run this sort of power level, meth isn't.

I don't think it makes a difference tbh, if your running meth or not but still on standard internals then surely that gives others a rough guide to what the engine can take with different levels of tuning thrown at it, I think its quite versatile tbh its like saying "you got a bigger turbo tho" makes no odds really its still a standard unit

Found a really old graph from my old car when its was running a standard classic 2 litre, 5 speed sti box. Laggy as **** but good fun in the power band, works out to about 390ish at the fly

Peak figures are not the be all and end all. The area BENEATH the curve matters so much more.

However I suspect the reality of this thread is to see what is possible from "untouched" motors.... how we get to that figure is not meant to show who has the better conversions, but what we have done to get there.

Personally I think we need to place the graphs underneath each of our entries. Peak figures don't mean a fat lot on their own and as I said in my previous post, it's all about how the car performs through the rev range. You can quite easily see from a graph how much torque and power a car is producing down low and for a road car this IS the important factor. The more and more graphs I see, the more and more people tend to ignore this key fact and just concentrate on that peak reading.

Of course this only really helps with cars run on the same "kind" of RR, in the same gear. As we have a number from SRR and Engine Tuner (who run the cars in 4th) it gives a fair comparison of the same load rates for spool.

This will certainly highlight a "good" package from a "not so" imo.

Let's bring some "meaningful life" back to this thread chaps.
