With the benefits of using aersols what are the benenfits of using a gun? Slightly more durable? Better finish etc?
Just to these are the rust spots on my tailgate. I am intending to rub down to the metal, reprime and dab with a touch up pen. The spots are really small, around 1mm x 1mm. is there anything else I should do or be aware of to prevent it returning?

Anyone? I have turned down Mercedes with their offer with the intention of teaching myself how to paint. I would like to practice for as long as possible before any work needed doing for real so if there are any tips on what will preserve it or stop it I would be most appreciative.

There is only one way to stop it Nick and that would be to grind back to clean metal and etch/prime/paint it mate,I think you will be surprised at how much bigger an area the rust has actually travelled underneath the paint mate,it will probably end up around a 4mm area and it will also leave a low spot where you have ground the rust down which will require filling to level off.
The finish from a gun cannot be compared to a rattle can finish what so ever, the gun finish is thicker so therefore has more depth of shine and clarity on the finish.

Cheers. I was intending rub down the area with a needle file or something similar to get to the rust. What is meant by etching?
Is something like this ok to use and then paint over?

Are these much the same except one is in spray form and one is like paint? As it states it is a primer can this be painted over directly if needed in future applications or do I always need to use a normal primer before applying the paint?
