Dont you just love Scoobynet now

At the end of the day if the op's number plate or lights or anything else on his car is illegal then its his own problem not anyone elses. He's probably like most of us. We all push the boundaries of legality with our cars including loud exhausts which 90% of us have.

I think the car looks good and if you want a front mount go for it. Its your car at the end of the day

They are epic banny!

The FMIC comment was not intended to be a serious one but for the sake of starting another argument, I am doing it for the looks, I have heard every argument for yes and no, I am running about 340 and dont expect a gain and understand it might be more 'laggy'.

I will be remapping as I am also putting a walbro 255 on and possibly new headers whilst I am at it, have got in touch with the chap that mapped it before when owned by the last guy to keep costs down.

Popcorn out....

The standard tmic will be struggling at 340bhp that much is certain, so its worth changing from a safety aspect never mind going for more power!

Have I just done something right?!!

Thanks for the info, it is more of a childhood pic on the wall job, was a classic with a fmic... so I must have one! But certainly sounds like a win win now!

So you know how they look to other road users, but you won't change them at the moment.

You really wonder why you're getting a barrage of abuse!!

Yes, at 340, it's touch and go with a TMIC. Mine suffered heat soak and failure at around 320.

Just make sure it's properly mapped and with the fuel pump and headers, you should be OK.
Mine runs around 400/400 with what's supposed to be a laggy turbo and FMIC. I love it and don't experience any lag. Bob Rawle mapped it and it runs one of Harvey's trick up-pipes and tubular headers. Brilliant spool from very early, fun to drive, but easy around town too.

It appears nowadays that if your car does not look standard then you must be a ****. I was even told on here last week that my car is nothing more than a chav mobile !!!

Give me strength, I don't even have a rear spoiler fitted !!!

Op, your lights look nice mate and personally anything you can do to improve the light is a good thing. I mean come on chaps, we all know just how poor the light is on a classic. If you find they do upset oncoming traffic then you'll have to think of another route to take.

Ive got some up-rated lights on my Type R. Been driving classics on and off for 12 or more years. Got to be said, i now feel so much safer being able to see well when driving B roads. I am very careful not to upset other road users. Good lights- best upgrade by far

@ Shaun - if you think this is a barrage of abuse you haven't lived mate! I have not been flashed, but then again if you look at your calander you might notice it is June? So not suprisingly I don't have them on (because even I am not that much of a tw@t!)! If I have problems I will remove them, but no, I don't know how they look to other road users as I tend not to watch myself driving towards myself?!

@Alcazar - I will have a chat with the mapper and see what he recommends, also, regarding headers do you mind me asking what you gave for yours? (I know Harvey has a great reputation, which of course you pay for!) 400/400 sounds delightfull! You not have to strengthen anything for that?

@MattyB1983 - being able to see at night will be a joy now! You're right they are like driving with matches as standard! I get the chav comments all the time too! But thanks, I think it has lifted the look somewhat aswell!!

It is a Subaru the standard which chav mobiles are measured against, just make sure it is quick enough so no one sees you

Has anyone fitted HID`s to a classic with morette headlights fitted, just wondered if they work ok and look ok as the glass in the lenses is thicker and obscure compared to the standard clear light unit.

You were unlucky then... I had HID's in my bug and the dip-beam was fine, with minimal scatter, but maybe I was just lucky ?

H1 dip is back to halogen now, for the MOT, but with spot and main on HID I'm good to go !

Ah.......but YOUR bug used single filament bulbs, which are a LOT nearer optically correct than the b@stard contraption that is the H4 HID

I've "lived" more than most..... I suspect a large amount of this community will vouch for that one.

I think you know exactly what they look like on headlamps that don't have the proper lenses fitted. If you don't you're either blind or plain stupid.... I strongly suspect you're neither.

They dazzle oncoming traffic without using effective lenses. They are dangerous and a royal ****ter for traffic in front of you (some tit with these on following you) and oncoming.

I don't personally care if they are legal or not, but it pisses me off that the owners show a blatant "**** you" attitude to other road users by using them. I'm sorry mate... but that's the point. It would be like me driving everywhere with my headlamps on full beam..... you just wouldnt do it when other road users are oncoming or you're following.

I agree with that comment about the '**** you'! I know what it is like to be blinded and it is frustrating. The lights are pointed quite far down and I am sure you will agree that although hid's on classics are a problem (Wasn't aware of the scatter, am now) the angle on which your beam is will effect the dazzle others have to deal with?!

So, when I said see how many people flash me I meant that as a way of gauging how much of a problem it is.

I think you are under the impression I am a care free ccok who has no concern for other road users, in which case you would be wrong!

Lets see how they go shall we.

Much love

as said if you do end up getting a lot of bother then there are other routes. I have a set of Xtec bulbs in both my cars and rate them as a good alternative to hids! Either way it's your car mate, if you're happy with them then that's all that matters.

If we all had the same opinion this place would be dull as ****

Whilst I applaud you in your willingness to put up a valid argument there simply is none.

If your headlamps are directed so far down, as to not cause scatter that affects oncoming vehicles, or vehicles you're behind..... you are simply getting zero benefit from the HID's and you'd be virtually pointing them to the floor! lol

I don't flash owners who have these lights in.... what's the point. They know as much as I do, how damn irritating they are to other road users and boarding on being dangerous.

I do a lot of rural and A & M road driving...... so you may appreciate how much this really does **** me off when driving at night. No streetlights in rural environments and I get some **** behind me or worse, oncoming, with these scatterfest gash lights on.

But bless him..... cause they look cool innit!
