Syria - I just can't understand
i gave up reading half way through so i might have missed some bits bit
assad is baath party Syrian goverment, mostly alawites
however in syria
"Sunni account for 74% of the population,[112] while 13% are Shia (Alawite, Twelvers, and Ismailis combined),[112] 10% Christian"
they dont like each other in a normal situation
as soon as they started protesting and the Syrian army started fighting back it got violent extremely quickly.
its not a war of democracy over dictatorship (or a dominate party system to be politically correct)as it was in lybia. this is a holy war
as soon as someone comes and bombs people in your village you get pissed with the other factions. they fight back and kill people then Syrian army get even more pissed of.
you might think there savages but its just the same as Protestant and catholic which has only just died down in our over here after 100s off years off wars and scuffles.
there is no easy answer! they just have to learn to play nice or split there land up!

Fa1l_fan and bullShaid, "brothers" together again like two ***** in a sack. How difficult it must be for you both to be raised in a country you obviously despise. Desperately waiting for the West to intervene in a conflict involving fellow "brothers" (committing unspeakable attrocities against each other if the reports are to be believed) in order to have a common enemy.
For your information some of us can think for ourselves and do not need to declare love for queen and country every five minutes. I'm quite fond of this country. If I need an ambulance I can get one within minuts, if I need the police one phone call and they are technically there, if I need the fire service again they are only a phone call away.
Now you tell me how is it obvious I despise the country so much? Is it because I don't get on my knees everytime the army is mentioned? Well sorry if you can't comprehend but if my blood brother is doing wrong I will never support him and I certainly won't feel sorry for his outcome based on a decision he made!. I might give him a little money in the form of charity but you won't see me actively supporting or defending him.
The common enemy won't be some soldier who has been dragged into a war he knows nothing about which consequently will go on to ruin his life either physically or mentally. The common enemy will be people like yourself sweetheart.
From Russia's point of view, they are supporting an internationally recognised and legitimate Government of Syria who are under attack. The rebels on the other hand are made up of defectors of the Syrian army and a few groups of known terrorist organisations. My view is that neither side should be getting military aid at all and fuel a war by proxy, humanitarian aid yes, but not military.
Yes, that was the follow up.
Of course the is no intention of giving arms to terrorists, does mean it won't happen. Suppose the rebels are successful in over throwing Asaad, there is nothing to prevent the more extremist rebels from from getting their hands on a substantial arsenal of Asaad's chemical weapons,
Look, just go away and die! Seriously just die. You are a waste of space. You have nothing to add to a debate other than troll. You are probably one of these guys that sits there googleing Muslamic articles to message your inferiority complex. However since you have already admited you are not white and you wont share your 'thing' with the rest of us i can only lable you as a cowardly keyboard warrior type troll so please if you cant add anything other than weak digs below the belt then just go away. Play playstation or something its easier on your non functioning brain than adult debate.

It is a frightening prospect that some of these groups could suddenly have tons of chemicals at their disposal.
Perhaps even more reason to allow Russia to prop up Assad. Lesser of two horrific evils?
David
PS.
There is a parallel in Pakistan as it is conceivable that the Taliban could get hold of some of Pakistan's nuclear weapons.
Wonderful world we live in these days
I think you mean "does not" in line 2?

I agree that Assad is the lesser of the two evils; the potential damage should some of the chemical weapons falling into the hands of terrorists could do goes with out saying. We don't fully understand what the different factions of rebels are fighting for and it may not necessary be for democracy.
With regards to Pakistan and the Taliban, this is why we give foreign aid to Pakistan; to keep them on our side and keep the Taliban from gaining control of a nuclear armed country.
Yes there are a few errors in that post, the hazards of typing on an iPhone with fat thumbs whilst on a busy train!!

Probably sound heartless but I am now immune to the whole scenario "tragedy". Why do they always look to the West for help when most of them can't stand the West? Why don't they cry to their Arab "brothers" to help them instead?
I assume it is because firing missles which the West have is better than a Lebanese or Qatari firing a camel at Assad

Seems we are on the way to doing just that listening to Hague
FFS when will we learn to keep our noses out unless we can genuinely make these countries into better places (which given the current state of Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya we obviously can't).
Mind you it's not like we're in massive debt as acountry or anything so got to spend all that spare cash we have somehow.... may as well go to war

Russia may be right in its support for Assad but that's a very bitter pill to swallow.
I can't see any other option given the disorganised state of the rebels.

John Kerry descrribed this chemical attack as a 'moral obsenity' I couldn't agree more.
We are inevitably going to have to intervene in Syria, the only question is; how many people have to die first?
