Well, I had a BIG setback last night.
As part of my health-regime, I took up football. There's about 20 of us who work at 3 FE colleges, and Friday afternoon, after classes etc go on to the astroturf and enjoy a 90 min kick about.
Now, I used to be quite fit (good sprinter, then got into weight training).....
So the last few weeks, there's been tiny knocks etc, wheezing and general "blowing out of the cobwebs"....
Then last night...... shock! Horror!!! All was going well. No issues, feeling pretty good..... up until about the 80th minute.
Was jogging over to the ball, when I felt a "PING!!!!" in my calf muscle.
Stopped me dead in my tracks.
Now on crutches with was looks like a torn muscle
And can't drive
Just as I was getting close (weather permitting) to go and try/purchase my 996
Better heal feckin quick!!! Got cars I want to look at......
Dan

good to hear j4cko!! Well Done
Won't be jacking it in - like the exercise too much.
In the meantime, I can still do calorie-counting and upper-body weights, so it's not too bad.

I'm getting one of those impedance devices from boots to check my bodyfat %.
Had a bit of a blow out today. 300 kcals of chocolate lol.
I've been on 1500 to 2000 kcal a day now for almost a month and I can see less fat on me now.
I've also cut out all red meat for the time being.

Tore my calf muscle, so exercise has been out of the question. I can finally put my foot flat on the floor!
Doubt I've lost anymore weight, but I've tried not to consume too much either.

I'm getting more and more downhearted. Sticking as close as I can with my 'allowed' calories, going to the gym 2/3 times a week yet I've only lost 3.3lb in 4 weeks?
I don't know why, I expected to have lost more considering I've gone from not worrying what I'm eating and doing no exercise to calorie counting (1710 it's allowing me) and pushing myself hard in the gym doing cardio.

Time for me to get back on it again now. I did lose then pout it all back on as I wasn't watching what I was doing.
Went for a walk today into town, and walking up the hill, the pain shooting through my knee was imense, made me feel physically sick. Usually it only plays up when I'm to heavy for the stress I put on it, or the cold.
Time to see 185ilbs to start with, last night I was 195.5.

I'm a bit late to this thread but have been on a diet for the last week and finding itok. I don't eat much, probably somewhere around 1000 to 1500 per day, but go nuts on beer at the weekend, 6ft2 16 stone after losing 2lbs last week. Interested to see what happens this week.

I am static at about 16 stone, been about a week and a bit now and haven't dropped into the 15's, sticking to 2000 cals a day and pretty active, it is weird, you get a drop when you least expect it, work hard, eat well all week and it stays the same, then have a few drinks, do nothing and eat crap and the following day, expecting the worse 2 pounds off.
Suspect it is,
There is a delay between your behavior and the weight loss/gain
Salt making you retain water
Glycogen stores
Gaining muscle
Hydration
Etc, just want to see some more progress.

Are you checking size, waist, thigh etc. you might find you're not shedding the pounds but your body shape is changing?

My core feels tighter, but my work shirts tell me that the belly isn't any smaller (bursting buttons )
That website Jacko linked to earlier in the thread reckoned that to maintain my weight I should be on 2800cals/day. I'm roughly sticking to 1100 less than that, hence why I feel I should be seeing the changes rather than just feeling 'tighter'.

i cycled to and from work for about a year which was a 15 mile round trip, ate what i wanted and lost 5 stone it was great!
then i changed jobs and used the car for the first 3 months and put on a stone, then with petrol going up i started to cycle again but it's now a 35 mile round trip, still eating what i want but not really losing any weight which is odd so i brought a heart rate monitor and clocked 900 calories burn't on the way in and 1001 burn't on the way home.
i don't have breakfast and have a glass of water when i get to work followed by a coffee, then midmorning i have an apple and a banana and for lunch i have 500g of natural yoghurt with a handful of fruit and a normal meal in the evening.
my weight seems to be stuck at 13 stone but i know when i lost it the first time it got stuck at this weight for ages so it seems to be my plateau but know i will go through it just to keep up with the cycling and not get disheartened by it.

My weight is now around 195lb and has been for a few weeks. I've lost 8lb since starting but I have noticed today that I've lost 2" of my waist
I still need to cut out having the odd weekday and compulsary weekend drinks I feel that if I did cut it out all together then I would be at my target weight - but you need some enjoyment in life ....

Finally under 16 stone, 15.13, been stuck on 16.1 or therabouts for 2 weeks despite making a decent effort. Not much but it has psychological value.
Weirdly, I ate a bit more and went down !
Bought a new MTB today (Trek 8000) so will get out on that as well as the roadie.

well done buddy. Hopefully getting back into after next week. Haven't eaten much cr@p, but the lack of aerobic exercise may have taken its toll
Still, it gives me something to do over the Summer eh?

It is slow going but for me it needs to be permanent, I can perhaps back off a bit when I am down to 14 st but I will need to be careful, think we all go at it like a bull at a gate and it isnt sustainable, slow and steady !

Managed to fit in, and be comfortable in my 36 inch waist pants, was 38 and they were getting snug and really buying 40 inch pants wasnt going to happen, would have been off to J4CKAMO at that rate, its weird as you think it is just the waist size but its all over, they dont slip down as much now.
Being fat is rubbish, uncomfortable and hampers everything, can really see that now I have lost a bit, still a fair way to go but that 16 pounds I have lost has made an immense difference to my life and mental outlook.

mini update from me,
with the myfitnesspal ive lost 17kg, ( over2 1/2 stone)
its been a really useful app, that and runkeeper have really got me moving, most nights i go for a ride on my old mountainbike, and if i dont it makes me a bit twitchy.
together with walking the dog more, and cutting out most of the junk i feel really healthy and have a lot more energy,
anyone selse still at it?

Still use it everyday.
Can't say I've lost a lot, but it's an eye opener as to how many calories I used to eat though.
Been going to the gym twice a week for cardio work and I do feel a hell of a lot healthier and my body shape has changed for the better.
Think I need to gain some muscle mass though to up my metabolism.
