heres when we realise its not a short term x period diet - but dietry lifestyle choice. longterm fluctautions of a a few lbs + or minus is of no concern aslong as the addeed weight is accounted for safely. and healthy body functions are not ecesively affected. imo

Some people are predisposed to particular activities though

Take the Olympic tri which was 3/4 thro as we started - there were bodies there simply psychologically more adept, I doubt I could ever get on terms

I noticed a few people haven't logged on MFP for a while. I've managed to do it every day and have lost 13lbs to date Another 8lb to go and I'll be happy.
My waist has gone from 38" to 34". My next challenge will be to give up smoking, again ....

Not so much middle aged spread but sitting at a desk related fatness has made me get up and go to the gym for the past 2 weeks. I've really enjoyed it and it has helped me deal with a mild bout of depression I've had for the past month or so.

Haven't tracked my weight at all to be honest but I certainly feel better for it.

Still not totally recovered from my calve muscle injury, but have tried to eat sensibly. Went to the docs for a checkup and found that I'm still 14.5 stone. So pretty happy about that. Good point of reference for my football which I start again in the next couple of weeks

So after two trips to the states, forgot all about it ! put it back on, back with it now, peaked at 17.6 after Christmas, back at 16.12, aiming for 15. Been pretty good all week, couple of treats tonight then back to it, permanently. Partly may have been down to feeling crap from an underachieve Thyroid, which is now treated.

Doing more cycling and have started Krav Maga, which has made me realise that cycling is one thing but some of the stuff we have to do for Krav Maga is hard, turns me into a wheezing blob.

Exclamation

I'm having a run of minor ailments again which is annoying. Exercising plenty in general though and I hover at 11.25 stone whatever I do.
Hurt my back twice recently lifting pretty heavy weights; oops.

Define "pretty heavy weights"?

It's not always best to lift over your ability as it results in injuries

I've been training since I was 16 so form is pretty good but I've stepped up the weights a bit mainly because it's been too grim outside to do much else!

Squatting 10x100kgs (deep squats), benching 10 x80, 25 pull-ups, etc. Nothing spectacular but I'm not exactly massive.
The aim is always a balanced approach; must be strong but also fast - sub 6 minute mile over 5k. My main thing is bodyweight lifting; I do all sorts of funny gymnastic stuff like a flag, planche, free standing handstand press ups, front lever, etc.

Good stuff Hodgy; where's the Park Run?
One has appeared near us so will do one ASAP. I've done an 18 minute 5k so would hope to match that.

Got a turbo trainer (Kurt Kinetic Road Machine) last week and got a few of the Sufferfest videos. Not the same as being out riding but makes for a damn hard workout. Must have been around 0 degrees outside last night but I was steaming in the garage.

I think we need a Scoobynet team in one of the Tough Mudder challenges. Shouldn't be any shortage of people volunteering going by all the hard-men fitness freaks on here...

we have a choice of two near us in Cambridge

I think they are a brilliant idea tbh - good fun and a great way to start the weekend

and if we are feeling mean we make all the kids do it too -- lol

your local one looks pretty cool too - all on trail paths etc

18 mins would put you in the top 2 or 3 on ours - (but we have a very steep hill)

I struggle to get under 26mins

Hmm, if it's hilly, 18 would be tricky.
Enjoy yours!

Wow you guys love your running, i'm old and knackerd and can't do much running as my left knee swells up so I march instead, but i've piled on a few kilos in the last 10 months due to pulled ligaments in my ankle, which is almost good again, so i'll be back on it when the weather gets better, dog's not going to like me when I start the 10km every day, he's pilled a few pounds on too, got to look good on the beach in the summer.

Sensible weight that.... Shouldn't have injured yourself on that weight. Points to form or pre-existing injury??

Well, they are heavy, some being up to four pounds, and he has made them pretty with some Crotchet Covers and sparkly paint which match his leotard.

Sorry, couldn't resist that one Mattee, only the normal level of minimal offence intended

I surf a lot and a lot of board paddling puts a lot of pressure on your lower/mid back. I think it's all a bit tight; I need a proper sadistic sports massage I think.

Does 1/2 hr mile swim count as moderate or vigorous exercise.

Well it tires me out! That's about how long it takes me in the sea. A bit less in a pool.

It's just that average person should do 150 mins moderate or 75 vigorous a week.
Plus leg/arm strength exercises as well
