You just had a bit of a fail moment, where a slightly childish attempt to stick it to a mod you perceive as being a snob backfired, not only in terms of the results, but also check out the comments on the thread. It's "snobs" mate, only one "b".
It derives from ages ago when public schools noted next to pupils who were NOT from "noble" families, "sans nobilite", (French: without nobility), and the abbreviation, "s.***", was used.
It became a word for someone trying to be posher than they actually are.
And even the word "posh" derives from the old steamship days, when people with money requested cabins: "Port (side) out, Starboard (side) home", abbreviated to POSH.

Apparently: P&O say they have never issued such tickets and, although many tickets from that era still exist, no 'POSH' ones have been found. These have the status of an etymological Holy Grail and occasionally someone claims to have seen one. Needless to say that hasn't yet been backed up with any evidence.
Even being an ex-public schoolboy myself, I think snobs are easily as annoying as chavs!
