For working with the diff in the car to change the pinion nose seal, we have a flat steel bar with holes in at the correct pcd that fits in two of the prop shaft flange bolt holes across one side. So that you can see the pinion nut still.

This rotates until the locking bar is up against the body and then you can torque away. Almost all other ways are unsatisfactory due to diff and drive shaft wind up making it a bit of a guess to know when it is actually right.

It doesn't matter whether you choose auto or 6 speed prop although I guess a used six speed prop will be newer than a GC8 auto one.

Cheers - David

Just read the next bit of your pm. Just unscrew the studs in the rear diff cover and fit the ones you need, it is no big deal. IF they won't come out without damage, then change the rear housing completely and use a good sealer on the gasket which is a steel one, not paper.

Ok thanks David. I can manufacture a bar like that so I get the right amount of torque.

I have located a low mileage 6 speed prop. I think I will go for that.

Thanks a lot for your help. Couldn't be able to do the conversion without you.

I got the GC8 Aut prop today and I don't know if it will fit perfect. The centre bearing support are off centre.

I think I will be better of buying the 6 Speed prop from stealthy55. Or what do you think?

You'll have to bolt it on and see if the line down the tunnel looks straight, or whether it has an angle that looks wrong. I cannot tell from the pictures whether it will be right or wrong.

Sorry.

Hmm. Okey. But both sides of the mount isn't equally long. Maybe they aren't in the 6spees either. But on the side where it's shorter on the gc8 aut the 6speed is 15mm longer.

I'm talking about the distance from the centre of the hole to the inside of the mount. If that helps.

I will order the 6 speed prop. The 6 speed prop looks sturdier and stronger. So I think it will take more beating.
