Why wasn't everyone here as concerned last week when they were in China?

That is the most pathetic thing i have read in a long while.

Exactly. This is why the people of Bahrain will use the race to further their cause. And why shouldn't they? It is the first international event to take place in the country by the attempted uprising. Why did we support the people of Libya but not Bahrain.
Similar atrocities are taking place but the Bahraini officials are allowed to carry on as normal? Why?

We seem to pick and chose who we support. Very similar to China.

No effort for explain that comment suggests that you don't really have anything to say.

It is quite simple, why meddle with another countries politics, it is nothing more than a sporting event and everything that goes with it.

As i said in my last post, it was China just last weekend and i note a severe lack of humanitarianism posts in regard that event.

Why the bias?

Part of me wouldn't care too much if this goes bad for Bernie.

His 2 billion net worth probably would not care.

I can understand why you feel so spiteful though, good luck with that.

Well the first practice went off with no problems, lets hope the rest of it goes the same way.

The incident that the Force India blokes were caught up in was not aimed at them, it was between the opposing sides of the political argument. It remains to be seen if there is an attack on the GP.

That's an interesting point. The protesters are against the GP as they believe it will boost the Govt's image but, in fact, it will probably highlight the protesters' situation, especially if the police are stupid enough to go in heavy handed against a peaceful demonstration.

No problems les? What about all the violence including people being shot with pellets, tear-gassed, beaten up, ****** squads at night. It's not going on at the track so 'out of sight out of mind'?

This was just posted on the BBC live coverage page:

BREAKING NEWS
Sauber have released this statement: "Yesterday (Thursday) night at 2030 (local time) a minibus of the Sauber F1 Team had left the circuit to go back to the Novotel in Manama. At 2050 (local time) the 12 mechanics being on that bus noticed fire on the medial strip of the highway. The traffic was slow, cars had their hazard flashers on. On the opposite lane there was no traffic. The team members saw a few masked people running from there over to their lane where a bottle was burning as well. The mini bus moved to the very right side of the highway and went passed the situation. No one from the Sauber F1 Team was hurt."

This is getting stupid now.

Ive got no time for Mr Ecclestone.

His daughter who has the IQ of Pond Life has just purchased America's most expensive property on the market (CASH) as well as owning a multi million £ place in London (which is having a further £26M spent on it yet STILL he wont dip into his deep pockets and build a state of the art circuit in the UK.

The least he can do is show some respect and direct some of his cash back into the sport & country that has been responsible for amassing such a vast wealth.

Bearing in mind a German bank bought 12.5% of his company for £875M and that's not including his rights to everything else!

I'm still thinking it might be cancelled. Bernie has explicitly said it will go ahead. Given his history of lying it is possibly it therefore won't. Anyway it is like a classic football moment...when the board expresses 100% backing for a Manager...you know they will soon be sacked.

The concern should be a practical one. If people are going to be shot in the face, for example, then it probably shouldn't take place. Politics has nothing to do with F1, nor should F1's presence in a given area be construed as a promotion of other acts committed in said area. It just is, just as it would be anywhere else. It's a race.

We should give people more credit than believing they will be influenced into siding with a brutal regime and sharing its views simply because they see a race taking place within its borders. It's yet another case of people wanting to involve themselves in the business of others: the west's cancer.

Anyhoo...

It was refreshing to see Bernie the other day actually stating that the politics of the country wasn't his concern (if it didn't affect F1). What leader of a global business would be that frank now? Instead you'd get some insincere PC bull about how they care about democracy, the whales, orphans... etc etc.

They should just make a decision and get on with it..
Plenty of time for debating after the event, instead of all this bloody speculation of what may or may not happen.

Government uses murder and torture against its own people, becasue of this they can screw millions out of them and give nothing back. Government then tries to legitimise itself by hosting big sporting events like an F1 race. To do this it uses some of the money it extorts from its people and gives it to Bernie, due to lots of torture murder and riots the race had to be canceld last year. To solve the problem evil murdering dictators then decide to bribe Bernie with even more money, why not ? They can steal more after all.
If F1 is not political then it should not be taking money from evil dictators and governments, the second it does that it becomes political and deserves a boycott by any person with any sense of morality.
