Just spent an hour to fill both cars and a couple of cans, as i'm booked on a flight on tuesday and need to get from notts to stanstead, so with everyone playing silly buggers i'm in the dammed if you do dammed if you don't situation, and tomorrow i'll have to go to the tip to empty the old oil out of my 20l jerry can and give it a clean so i can fill that so the mrs is sorted for the next couple of weeks, super.

Since they have to give 7 days notice as to the date of the strike which hasnt been done - what is the point buying fuel now? Surely in at minimum a wk everyone will need more anyways.
Moronic people, listening to a moronic govenment I can only assume most of them voted for and the fires fuelled by the BBC who love nothing more than scaremongering.

Me thinks you need to blame the real culprits here - the unions and drivers. Not saying they haven't got real grievances but it's their proposed actions that are causing all those "moronic people" to queue at the garages!

The Government have caused this boll0cks and it's a ******* disgrace. Firstly no dates have been set for any strike action. Secondly there will be a 7 day notice pending any action so at the moment there is absolutely NO excuse to panic buy.
This is disgusting scaremongering:

They really don't live in the real World do they? Fill up? What at a good £70-£80 for a tank when I budget £20 a week for petrol. Do they really think in this economic climate people can just go out and spend £80 on petrol just like that and this is before any strike action has even been announced? What it is is a huge increase in fuel tax income if they get everyone to fill their tanks at £80 a pop
I am keeping to my normal routine of when I put petrol in the cars but I bet when I go to the petrol station up the road it will have run out because of all the ******* muppets who are falling for the Government spin
Oh and of course then there is the issue of demand and supply. What happens when petrol demand rockets? The fuel companies start putting their prices up so expect a litre to get to over £1.50 in the next couple of weeks.

"I think our major advice is that people just need to do the sensible thing if they're going into the petrol station, they should get a full tank of petrol, not a half-tank of petrol, and they should top up where necessary.
"If we can make sure the nation's cars and vans and lorries ... are going around with tanks of petrol and diesel that are fuller than normal, that will be part of the resilience for our economy so, this completely wrong strike, we can make sure that we are ready for it and it doesn't bring the economy to a standstill."

Exactly, and we'll all be complaining then. Plus, this isn't really going to help the arguement that fuel is too expensive, and normal people are struggling to fill up, if everyone goes mad and stocks up. It may not be the government that has proposed this strike, but I think they are very much using it to their advantage.

I may have a totter up to Tesco in Cradley at 3:00am and top up like usual, no effing way I'm queuing though (usually have to queue even when there isn't a panic at that place during the daytime as its 2nd cheapest to Sainsbury in Merry Hell).
The BP in Lye had a massive queue, and thats the most expensive petrol station in the area....Haven't a clue why people use it, don't they ever notice its usually a good 5p more expensive than everywhere else (even when there isn't panic buying)? Convinces me this area is full of idiots

I just popped to the Shell nr work as I'm down to a 1/4 of a tank. Sign saying no regular diesel and only 4 pumps open for UL and V-power. Everyone is queued up at one pump so I squeeze past dozy bint and drive straight to a pump - result.
Then drove to Subway for lunch which happens to be opposite another Shell garage. And witnessed my first incident of "Fuel Rage". Cars on nearside of road queued up about 12 back. Car coming from other direction pulls up indicating to turn in thus queue jumping. At first he stays there but then realises he is holding the traffic up behind him. Goes to drive past other queue cars but bloke blocks him and shouts "f**k you" out of the window. Guy reversed out with his tail between his legs. Had to chuckle.

The BBC this morning was pathetic. Trying to tie Ed Davey down to when people should top up their cars Like a kids debate. Bill Turnbull should be embarrassed.
Isn't it obvious that it depends how much you drive and how incovenienced you would be by a petrol shortage. If you have to drive to care for an elderly relative then keeping your tank full makes sense. For the average Joe the current situation makes no difference. When really pressed, Ed said "Top-up when the tank is half full." Hardly government advice is it? I wish people were capable of making their own decisions.

Strange thing I noticed at Shell was a handwritten sign at the entrance saying no diesel when there was v-power diesel. Sign makes it sound like they don’t have diesel period.

Thing is, very few people actually ever fill their car up. Whent he lorry drivers did their blockade years ago the problem was the same as now. People who would normally put in £20 putting in £50 and more.
With each car having more than double the juice in, that's why they are running out.
It only goes to show how daft the nation in general is and its brilliant to see those on here who have done it makign out like they aren't the same as all these other sheep! I'm sure everyone in those queues is also sayign "i'm not panic buying, i'm just beign prepared by grabbing as much as a i possibly can."

I do. 9 times out of 10 it'll be on fumes when I fill up - and always to the brim. Just under half full at the moment so got plenty left and will fill up when I can. Passed the garage about 3 times today (was there anyway) but couldn't be ar5ed to queue. The queue was more than normal at that garage but not any worse than I've seen in the summer when the emmetts are about ....
I'd say one of the reasons that people are filling up is that their kids break up for Easter tomorrow and they've arranged trips out/going away/etc so don't want to disappoint them.
