Luan..

I was intrigued about the weight comments you made about the 996..

I have a look and the official stats are...

986 3.2S Boxster 1260KG
996 3.4 Coupe 1320KG

Both manual cars...

Just to clear that up..

Actually no.

IMS guardian detects wear. In short it's an electronic device that monitors engine oil & any traces of metallic debris that is floating around.

On a budget of 10k, I'd spend the first 5 to 8k on a very good 928, and keep the rest spare for any jobs that come up.

Full of V8 goodness, and second-car classic insurance at barely a tenner a month.

Do you have one mark? always fancied a 928, they just seem a little dated now unluss you opt for the s4, but they demand a much higher value.

Sorry - yes I had read the website and understood the concept (that will teach me to post too quickly)

I was referring to it being an early-warning system......
Knocklink listens to anything untoward
IMS Guardian does the same type of monitoring, but on a MUCH more advanced level.

I love the 928, even the really early ones, Wheeler Dealers did one, repainted it brown and it looks stunning, time warp and of its time, ok, they do look dated, because they are but I think they now look classic rather old, the worst thing people can do to these cars is try to modernise them, I think they look best in the original colours with the original rims, or period upgrades, sticking massive modern wheels on one just looks wrong and is only partially successful, you still have the big overhangs which jar if they have the wrong wheels making it look newer. Porsche kind of did it with the 968, i.e. modernising the 944 but it was fairly convincing but they couldnt do much about wheel placement.

I cant afford newer at the moment, well I could but it would be at the expense of something else and for 2000 miles a year mine is just a bit of fun, something to **** about with.

I know exactly what you mean, saw one recently that had a full red leather retrim (which actually looked nice) but he had put chrome 18" s on it and blacked out windows

Im 6'1, so not exactly massive, but i didnt really fit the 996 911. So something to consider also...

Im 6.4 and fit in mine with ease ? just did a full day at cat driver training in and out of it for 8 hrs not an issue,Very strange you didnt really fit in

Same size as FUD and had no problems fitting my 996 (or even the Exige).
It's a bit tighter in the Boxster, however.

Hmm

My g/friend fancies a Boxter but would probably only do less than 2000 miles per year (she averages 3000 per year in her current car!). Money is tight so looking at getting around a T reg 2.5 for £3500-£5000 with 100K miles or so

Worth doing or avoid like the plague? Any pointers? Never haven driven a Porsche ever...

(Usual caveats on HPI, Service History, tyres etc understood)

just shop very carefully, all the boxsters ive seen around that price have been quite ropey. join pcgb and get all the information you need before commiting to buy. there was a "nice" one near me, he wanted £5000 firm. sold it for £3500 in the end, as it was a nail.

my 944 is old, but its perfect mechanically and on the body! mine will go up in value now, just wish I could keep it.

Nice, but Im not mad about the Boxster wheels. A 968 should have 16" Cup wheels a good inch wider front and rear.

Is it a manual or a Tip?

I agree, 944's generally look best on the factory wheels, modernising them leaves them somewhere in no mans land, I prefer mine to just look old.

Think I may go for a Turbo Coupe next year, dont get any chance to get the roof down !

There seems to be a lot of interest in front engine Porches, E36 M3's and that ilk at the moment.

Why not. The MX5 is good fun and you can always swap it for something else if you don't like it.

At this sort of price there are so many cars I want to own, even if its only for a few months. I've purposely never had the same car twice, I look on Pistonheads classified and I keep getting the urge to chop for something else.

Go for it.
