Spotting A Fake HKS SSQV - A Pictorial Guide

Another thing well worth a thread about is Rays Wheel Nuts which were being sold on here as genuine but were proved to be copies and yet the seller still claimed they were genuine.
A set of wheel nuts failing has far worse potential outcomes than a dump valve failing.
Sorry for the diversion but I think the two issues may be linked by a common factor.

What really makes me laugh is that the seller asks other members not to spam up their for sale threads with questions about the legitimacy of their products for sale.

Oh no, i think i just bought a fake from someone on here! The pics he had on here already look very different from the real pics on this thread. I trusted them becuase they had such a high trader rating :-(
He has posted it today, when it gets to me, i'll compare between the pics and the one sent and try and get my money back!

Well members are still buying these fakes despite this and other threads on the matter, I'd like to know how much they are paying for these 'genuine' items if they can sell them for £90?
Don't get me wrong we all like a bargain, but don't members realise that of the retail price is around £240 and someone is selling them for £90 then there is a very good reason for the massive price difference, and it isn't because retailers have a massive margin on them either.
The expression 'there's no such thing as a free lunch' is quite fitting.

No wonder one seller seems to be breeding them, every so often he finds some more he must have misplaced in his garage. I can't believe he even has the bloody cheek on his various for sale threads asking members not to spam his threads with questions about his items legitimacy, mind you he's not the only member selling them, is he?
As he and others are obviously buying and selling them for profit then I believe according to the SN rules that they should become Authorised Advertisers if they are quite clearly selling for a profit and a massive one at that.
Perhaps this should be a sticky in the members marketplace as well then?
Come on moderators pull your collective fingers out...

After buying a couple of 'genuine' SSQVs and finding them to be less than kosher, I decided to create this thread after finding lots of info online. I'm quite surprised that this info isn't being shouted from the rooftops by the mod team. It's not as if I'm singling anyone out, simply compiling a guide so that SN's masses are better equipped to spot the dodgy items.

very good and well done for noting the differences, but i have a genuine original (1st gen) and i have repainted it, if i were to sell it, how would i prove its real, the HKS label has been painted over and it was only ever like a transfer 9on originals and fakes)

I can't believe that the moderation/administration team haven't made this into a sticky.
And those members selling these fake items should also be paying AA rates as the terms and conditions are clearly being contravened as these members are quite clearly selling for profit rather than selling on parts removed from their cars.

I notice that one of the threads selling quantities of SSQVs has been updated with some photos recently. Shame they don't really show enough detail to ascertain whether they're genuine. Oh, except for the box where you can clearly see the poor quality of the cardboard with the ridges showing.
I also notice that the seller very helpfully includes a universal adaptor. Odd how the fake ones have an adaptor too. Perhaps the seller is purchasing these adaptors and, purely out of the goodness of his heart, is including them with his genuine HKS SSQVs.
He also very kindly links to an ebay advert (Sumo Power) to highlight that his circlips are the right colour. Unfortunately, the auction in question shows a different colour entirely and quite nicely shows the chamfered edge too.
I assume the fake that he supplied to me a while back was a one-off
One thing that is certain; the copies are getting better and I don't think every aspect of my guide can be taken as gospel. Buyer beware.

I noticed that the pics in that thread were rubbish enough to be of no use to anyone, I wonder if the vendor would send one of his genuine items to a HKS dealer for a comparison to be made.
As long as he assures that they are genuine then that must be good enough, just like some Rays wheel nuts (of questionable lineage shall we just say ) that were for sale on here may even have been the same vendor...

It's an absolute pi55 take that the mods keep saying 'RTM' the threads in question when they know damn well who 'they' are.
Action needs to be taken and mainly due to the fact that these's 'members' are making a considerable amount of money from each sale going from the price's in the links above!!
