My father has the pleasure of this dieses now,

incredibly its where the son doesnt shine, (we can only assume he must have been a naturist in his younger days)

he went to the Christie around 18 months ago, and had the general area tidied up, and lyph glands taken out, but has decline any other treatment due to the fact he is 78, doesnt want the next few years in agony only to postpone his passing away for a couple of years and doesnt want messing around with.

to be honest, my mum and my sister new a year before i did and never said, which annoyed me, but in his defence he hasnt been to the doctors in fifty years, so i dont think they would have got him to go anyway.

as it stands he still look bright and breezy, still walks everywhere never complains, and isnt in any pain.

i know he will decline eventually, and i think we are all over cautious looking for signs that arent there yet,

when i think how hard hes worked and done all that he has and this bloody thing got him, its made be re-evaluate my life.

as long as the kids are happy and healthy i dont care about much else anymore, my kpi and target is to be around for my dad and my kids, and get as much pleasure as i can out of all of my family, nothing else matters to me anymore.

Now first off the type I have isn't a killer......so I'll be here to bother you all for the foreseeable future!

But had a 'spot' on my chest that didn't seem to go...been to see a consultant yesterday and the upshot is that next week it, and another tiny one nearby, will be removed.
(Basal Cell Carcinomas)

So if you are any of......
1. Fair skinned
2. Freckled
3. Blue or green eyed
4. Ginger
5. Spend, or have spent a lot of time in the sun (sunburnt)

(FML 5 out of 5)

......and you have any lumps / spots that have lasted for more than a month, or have changed size, shape or colour ( and that isn't just dark brown, they can be red, pearly, pink, and all shades in between) them pop to your GP and have them looked at.

The consultant was concerned that I would worry about having two small scars .....I laughed and said "it's ok my supermodel days are behind me anyway" - made her smile!

Stay safe -Check it out- you would if was a problem on the car!!!

This thread is brilliant, Steve. Showed it to a few folks at work today, and most started checking for moles
Seriously, I have one on my back, had it all my life and it has not changed, but am going to get it looked at, just to be on the safe side

Just thought I would post this up as it might help someone.

I went to skin doctors a few times about a minor allergy and as a casual afterthought on one visit I got them to check my moles.

One turned out to be cancerous and they have just taken a chunk out of the top of my leg.
I am kind of back on my feet now.

Now.
1. This mole was at the back at the top of my leg so I couldnt see it
2. It wasnt causing any problems, but if it had been left for a few more months I would have probably been dead.
3. I am 45, but I am the fit bloke, you know the one that does 50press ups a day still. I climbed an alpine mountain with snowshoes ect 1 week before they found it. My mates are astounded, some of whom smoke ect, And out of all of us I am the one in the pub that that isn´t supposed to happen to.
4. I used to see alot of sun. However in the last 10years I have rarely got a tan and usually have a tshirt on. So just tanned arms and head.
5. This mole was in a place where the sun dont shine...no not my ****

So the point I am making everyone, is even if you dont feel you are at risk. It is worth getting them checked every six months.

Coming up for 46 - I most certainly wouldnt have seen 50 and I was none the wiser for it.
Perhaps I wont see 50. But It looks like I will

Money saved for my track project...now gone on medical expenses
Never mind

Best wishes
Steve

That's what my wife had only hers was inside her ear hence the 4 operations. The doctors said its unusual in young people(shes 39) not to mention inside her ear. She only found it due to blood spots when she cleaned her ears, who knows what could have happened if she didn't do that.

Cool...get it done
As I say there is no point in folks being paranoid - but once in a while get them checked.
Glad you are showing other people - thanks.

Me feeling fit as fiddle for a middle aged git, one week before they found it!

I think the point I am trying to make on this post is that now matter how fit and invincible you feel, perhaps you are a bit more fragile than you realise.

The rediculous thing is, is that I was by myself on that day and I was a bit concerened about being taken out by an avalanche given my reading of the conditions...and there I was wandering around with cancer! rediculous

I'll give this an extra bump.

Good on you for posting this thread as it's probably something alot of us don't think about too much.

Also, flyinspanner, glad to hear that you'll be ok too.

Maybe you could somehow get him to look at this thread. At this point, all may be well with him, but this thread shows how important it is to keep an eye on the skin, (tbh, other parts of the body as well) no matter how healthy one may feel. Also, if he ever does have any concerns, this certainly highlights how positive the outcome can be if caught early on.

Suprisingly yes you can.

Exposure to sun doesnt help and
can cause it but it can also be changes to the bodys DNA that causes it
