Funny you should say that. I was looking at the possibility of build a impreza powered 4WD single cab (similar the blue van posted by jimbob). I then realised (the wife pointed out) that I have a little too much on at the moment

To be fair, the missus has always wanted a bus so it was and easy decision.

Just read your update, the seats look great. I've decided to go with the xtremevan charging kit, as it'll do everything I need and is simple to fit.

Well I've made some decent progress at last.
This morning started by fitting the heat exchangers and backbox. Also set the rocker - valve clearance while it was on the stand.
Next job was to get it on ground, fit the flywheel, clutch and attach the gearbox. Also filled it with oil while is was easy to get to.
After a couple of hours the engine was in and running. I now need to get a strobe gun so I can fine tune the timing.
The wife has also made a start on the interior. All the lining has been stripped and the mouldy MDF boards removed.
Got to get some new tyres and install a new steering drag link and she's off for a mot.

Looking good Rich, I do like the T2 air cooled models and having owned a Beetle myself I know what a cracking vehicle they are, they take some getting used to but the owners scene is great and you always get a wave from another air cooled VW driver.
I will have to pop by one night after work and have a nosey.

Cheers Si, I now have space for another engine I'm tempted to get a beetle and use it as a donor for a buggy, but I think Lucy will go nuts

Well I went for the MOT this morning and she passed Had a couple of advisories on it, so I'm off parts shopping this morning. At least it's on the road now, so we can start to make it look good.

As it's a new year I though I'd better get moving on this. With all the rain recently we found that the fibreglass roof was leaking, the roof was bowed and holding water which was then seeping through small cracks in the gelcoat.
First job was to get the roof off and strengthen it. A ladder frame was made from Alu and bonded to the roof. The next job was to sort out the metal roof on the camper, which means I need cover, so after 2 years I thought I'd finish the garage doors!!
So it's gone from this
To this!
The camper should be in the garage on the weekend and I can start welding the roof, and sand the lot down ready for paint. While it's in the dry I'm also going to get some of the new mechanical goodies fitted, fit the new (old) front seats and stonechip the underside.

Had a bit on fun today. Was up at 8 washing the van down ready to go in the garage, then fired it up for the first time in months. Was surprised that the battery was still ok after the winter weather, and after a bit spluttering she fired up. At this point I decided as the sun was shining and the roof was off it would be a good time to go for a spin. was very tempted to make it into a convertable, but it wouldn't be a practical camper and the wife would kill me So after a spin around the block it was time to see if I built the doors high enough, and I'm happy to say she fits

Well I'm getting closer to the interior. I started painting on Saturday and today I removed the tape to look at the final result. Fairly happy with it, justgot a few areas to touch up. Bumpers will be getting their 2nd coat in the morning and then fitted in the afternoon.

Thought I'd post an update as it's been well over a year!! The Bus has been going well, only had the odd break down (mainly due to poor quality parts). One thing I noticed was the lack of pickup when pulling off, so have now fitted a vacuum advance dizzy which should help this. Reached another milestone last week, when part of the interior arrived. Fitted it on the weekend and it is a great improvement, really freshens the bus up.
