Blobby, Blobby, Blobby all the way. When I bought my 2.0 in 2006 the 2.5 Hawkeye had just came out and everyone told me to go for the 2.0 blob (which I did because it was a lot cheaper at the time)
Now have a choice between the Blob and the Hawk, I love the looks of both but I still see more people find the blob more reliable and it seems to have held its value better.

I've always owned classics but have driven a couple of newage and have to say I prefer classics. Yes newage ones are more refined and easier to drive but if you only drive short distances and enjoy the drive more than its a classic all day long that you want. I used to get much more looks in my old P1 than any other classic I've had, including the bright green one I got now!! Classic all the way!!

99 jdm type r 34k fsh ( also have the original receipt ), but its in the garage getting a few thing done. 2.1 fully forged, gearbox recon, alloys, front ap's, exhaust headers & up zircotec coated, full decat exhaust, light weight pulleys, new arb's, alk, lowered f&b, alloy drop links, and much more.
when i get it back and its run in, it'll be getting, fmi, upgrade turbo, injectors, oil cooler etc to finish it off.

I see you have a high mileage JDM type R still mine has a mere 31k on the clock imported new in '99
The biggest trouble is, is that people compare too many different models (normally a classic JDM v a new age UK STI) and wonder why they say the classic is faster (well its got 15ps more to start with ) then you have the issue of 5 v 6 speed, going from a "wide" 5 speed to a "tight" 6 speed, people dont like that, but once you are use to it the 6 speed is a nicer box and the 5 speed feels like a huge throw compared to the 6.
People then complain about the weight difference, well yes there is, but start chucking all the parts from a new age on a classic, note that all the important parts (brakes, gearbox, clutch, wheels etc) are bigger/heavier) than they were on a classic, so add those to a classic (not forgetting the added crash protection on a new age), and you are not that far away weight wise.
Which is best? well it has to be my new age JDM STI Spec C it brings more smiles than the type R does (though the R is sorn awaiting some work to be completed), but its nice to scratch an itch, ok if I could keep both then I would, they both drive differently, the Spec C is more planted and you can drive it quicker and it has more feedback than my V5 STI type R (having a fast rack doesnt help really, probably better with a limited and a quickrack as the steering does feel vague compared to the Spec C's), it just shows you how well they have improved things, both in power delivery and handling

+1
Having both i have to say this is soooooo true.
On her there are 2 facts that are not popular with the mines better than yours brigade.
1. newage is faster/ better than a classic in a lot of ways, if you have the sack and skill to push hard.
2. A newage wrx with light mods to sti level is quicker and nicer to live with than a standard sti.
But i do still love classics, and i would buy a newage sti over a wrx if they did a blob wagon, for reasons related to the cost of modding.
At the end of the day everyone chooses their car for different reasons, most important is what is right for you.
But i'd go 05 blob sti FTW.

There is alot more to it than that, and there would be no reason to replace the shell with a type R over the Spec C, its just the full setup of the car, the Spec C is just better in every way, its not just the engine, you would need the full package (and you may have issues fitting some wheels in the Type R's arches).
