Don't forget to tell the taxman. You pay tax on the interest incurred during the claim procedure on Loans but not credit cards.

6 years for anything that is available from a credit check
10 years I think for some loans

as far back as you can remember if you can provide the account numbers and copies of paperwork

Last 6 six years to the calender day, I believe. There's a walkthrough on Martin Lewis's moneysupermarket.com site. With template letters, etc...

I used the Moneysavingexpert template. It did say that they may reject it at first, but to persist. It only took the one form for my claim.

Hmm account numbers etc, I haven't got paperwork from old loans etc. Would my bank(s) give me copies on request or can they refuse?

Not quite sure really, they could refuse knowing what your game is LOL

I did hear a rumour that the government is supposed to be making all loan companies investigate and refund etc where applicable, which could explain the massive surge on PPI claim companies, knowing that their time is almost up

I had to laugh as I spoke to one company, and they emailed me some details, then they started harassing me saying we can see you have opened your email is there a problem or some other reason that you haven't signed anything yet

The same cold hard sales people selling the PPI claim backs are (in some cases) the same cold hard sales people who (mis) sold you the PPI in the first place

Some companies may have destroyed old records as they no longer have a legal requirement to keep them, some companies don't even exist anymore but the big names should still have records

You can request copies of the credit agreement you signed, IIRC it costs a quid though and I believe by law they have 14 days to supply you with it

Get over to moneysavingexpert as it has a FAQ on just about everything you need to know.

I expect having to request your account number etc would only slow the speed of your claim, rather than harm it.

i got mine back, it was simple printed off 10 times forms filled them in and off they went. my complaint was simple as i had ppi on various credit cards but have been self-employed 90% of the time so a claim would have been impossible if i needed to claim. i didnt think i would get much as im usually clear on cards but the odd tenner ppi over years mounts up...i read the banks lost there case in court and were made to put a billion aside to pay back customers of ppi and upto now only 5million has been claimed....

Hi mate, signed up to Equifax - it lists all the cards/loans, but doesn't say if they have ppi on them, do you just contact the banks etc quoting the relevent card/account numbers?

Your best bet is to see if you can dig out any paperwork for the loans etc

I found all of mine and credit card statements (as these show if you had PPI or not)

Bear in mind that Equifax only give you the last 6 years

Yeah, but you're all f*cking idiots for taking PPI out in the first place........or so some people on here would have you believe!

I was charged PPI on credit card from Halifax where the PPI payments were hidden within the interest payments and not list separately. Common practice at the time.

Yep, my dad had the same happen to him last year. I'm gonna send some letters out to these people, but this Equifax only gives you the last 4 digits of the card number - is that enough, or will I need the full number??

What is more annoying than the PPI payments, is the fact they charged you approx 29% APR on the PPI payments

You should not be charged interest on insurance payments

I sent a claim to my Credit card company using the money savingexpert template. Just been sent a copy of my credit card application form where it shows I ticked the PPI requirement so I'm guessing I won't be getting anything.... Off to the ombudsman then...

never use a 3rd party as the banks etc have been told to notify all people that have had ppi with regards to ant claims.its cheaper for the banks to send a letter to you and deal with you direct than a 3rd party that adds mad amount of charges on.so best to just contact your bank and lodge a complaint.

That isn't true

One of mine I had to tick the box, but I was mis sold as I was told that it was for redundancy accident and sickness

I got made redundant and I got told I wasn't covered and that I was only covered for accident & sickness so it had to go to a debt collection agency for 5 years

It is all about being mis sold the tick box is to say you had it and accepted it at the time

I was very foolish when I was younger and tallied up I got conned/duped/easily led by fast talking smooth sales women who badgered me till I said yes to the approx 45k worth of loans etc I built up

Yes gulliuble young foolish stupid but nonetheless conned by unscrupulous sales people LOL

Got Mine back also, I wasnt using those company's that do it for you either as they take a huge cut out of it. I wanted back what I payed in full. so as someone allready stated above the template letters from martin lewis money saving expert I used those and fired them off recorded delivery and 8 weeks later I recieved a settlement figure and had to sign a document to state I was happy with the amount and then was payed into by bank account by BACS. £3500 happy days.

Allthough one credit card company wont play ball and keep refusing even though when I had a naccident I couldnt claim

Problem?

The only problem I have is that so many people out there are just trying it on to get some money back, ie post 1 on this thread. If you were genuinely mis-sold PPI then yes you should get it back but most claims are not genuine. That is a fact.

And no, I do not work in a bank and, never have and never will.

I've just had a text sent to me, saying 'they' have info that means I'm due £2,500+. I can't remember if I took out PPI or not, and if I did, it would have been a long time ago. Don't know what to do.........should I ring whoever it is?

That's probably one of the multitude of speculative texts sent out each day to mobile numbers. Along with the other one that states "you are due £????? after your accident."
I'm not certain whether replying will just cost you the cost of a text or a bit more? It may be that they're just casting their nets touting for business.
