I thought that was the vent covers not the scoop, I'll PM him Be interested to see data captured for the cooling scoop theory as I'd imagine it probably gets less effective as speed increases, particularly on early classics.

I think Ian's car looks good; my personal preference is for subtly and a kick *** engine but then again I do drive an estate

Thanks Cliff, looking forward to seeing one in the flesh.

First reservation for me then.

(edit) Cliff is that a Chargespeed air intake duct on the o/s of your car? I've been trying to find something similar for a while.

Looks good Cliff, that's a good idea and painting the inside a darker colour makes a difference. I may just pinch your idea as the Chargespeed ducts are around £280 for both sides for the carbon fibre version.

Its not been painted inside. Think its just the photo that gives that impression. Simple to do but make sure you use the fog surround. Ive saved the fog cover for when its "lashing" down with rain to give the air intake some protection.

Does look good though, I've just been pricing the Chargespeed ducts on Japan Parts and even on sale the carbon fibre ducts are £383 plus shipping and taxes (and that includes a 17% discount ) and the fibre glass version is £220 so I quickly forgot about them.

My CAIK is an APS and the filter is stuck in the wheel arch, so I want to just get some air flowing through the fog lamp cover area at the filter cone, but I do like the STi cover so I think I will just leave that in place.

Dont think I will be, sorry. The blobeye vent has already taken 18 months and its still not right yet. If I do produce them and they go down well then I may see if its possible to adapt to bugeye but that will be a long while away,,,again, sorry

Spoken to Harvey and he had this to say...

"The purpose of the scoop is to force air through the top mount and down the transmission tunnel. This adds to the flow of air in through the bonnet gap and radiator over the engine and down the transmission tunnel. From the testing I have done my advice is that the scoop stays.
Reverse scoops IMHO are a bad idea and removing the plates underneath the grilles on the bonnet are a bad idea if the engine bay remains standard. Gearbox cooling is another consideration and anyone fitting a 6 speed in place of a 5 speed will notice the increase in underbonnet temperatures if they monitor them accurately. This can be done with a max/min thermometer available from any garden centre for very little money.
Subaru intended air to go down the transmission tunnel and personally I would leave well alone.
Finally, anyone running a scoop without the appropriate underbonnet tray to seal on the edges of their TMIC is wasting their time
."

I did this after asking Harvey the same question, there was no difference in the underbonnet temps between fitting the scoop and then the reverse vent.

1) It will depend where you are measuring the temperature.
2) If you fit an STi 8 intercooler and want it work well you need to fit the larger scoop because a lot fo the air flows over the top of the Classic scoop.
