That's why insurance is such a big sham. It was never invented to protect the consumer, rather its purpose is to make money out of risk. Just think how many of us have years of no claims bonuses. This means that each and every year, you've been paying a large sum of money. Now forget all the legal wranglings for a moment and consider what you've actually received in return for those costly premiums.
The answer, nothing!
The answer, nothing!
it is expensive and they are in it to make money but they do have to pay out large sums to people in the event of theft or damage.

Here's some pictures, see the problem. Showed a mate today and he spotted it without me saying anything.

Why not do what the previous owner did and sit two feet behind other traffic for a month or so. That much road rash can only be achieved by driving too close.....or following gritting trucks about all winter?
Seriously though, I don't think the insurers will pay for the other side. £2 grand is a hell of a lot for a wing and blow job IMHO.

I had a look on the docs that came through from the claims handler and the independant assors. It says 'the total cost of repair was an estimated £2K and would allow a reserve cost of £2.2K which should cover and minor additional sundry items.'
I think the £2.2K reserve would cover spraying half a bumper and doing a proper job to make the car look right.

i had a scrape on my passenger door, brand new wing fitted and complete paint job of all the parts,
i was just under 1100 inc vat, the paint alone was 696 inc vat.
the headlight is approx 500 quid brand new from subaru so still no where near the 2.2k they allowed.

I've sent the photos to the claimes handler, will have to see what they say. This is a claim on the 3rd parties insurance, so no doubt they will want to pay as little as possible. But with the above circa £4.2K authorised for the job, would have thought the front bumper could be sorted.

To me, it's absolutely no fault of the owners that he's had to get his car sprayed, both sides of the car should've been sprayed to make them match & blend in. If they don't blend in & he comes to sell his car then it's highly likely that he won't get the proper going rate due to obvious accident damage/repair that wasn't his fault in the first place. That's what the insurance is there for + let's face it, we pay more than enough for it.
Hope you manage to get a satisfactory outcome mate.

yes YOU pay alot for insurance sadly the insurance try to pay the LEAST they can to the bodyshop,
if you kick up enough of a fuss you may get the full bumper done, but they will not bend the other wing, nor shoud you imo, the colour isnt the best and lacquering the wing may send the colour off to the door.

Common sense prevails
Had an e-mail from the solicitors with the independant assessors agreeing saying:
'When painting a bumper for repairs we would expect that the bumper is painted in fill and not half painted.'
So I need to book the car in so they can finish the repair

I recently had a dink, and when the from number was replaced along with the headlight and bonet they had it all together and then phoned me up to say the car won't be ready on time because they now have to spray the wings to match the bonet and bumper because or stone chips and age related motorway miles. Happy days for me as now my car look absolutely superb
I think you have a valid case.

I'll post more pictures when they've sprayed the nearside of the bumper.

I'd play up about the white gasket (although it does look better colour coded). Boths side should at least have matching colour gaskets (unless it was supposed to be colour coded when new).
Got admit that level of road rash on the bumper is pretty bad...so bad that they really should have given you the option and quote to spray the whole lot.

Car's done nearly 76K. Tbh a lot of that would have been picked up on the late night cruises back in 2005 (the good old days). Back then the car was stock and it wasn't the fastest car, so picked up chips.
Now it's got 470bhp and is the fastest of my mates cars, so bumper should stay cleaner (not that we cruise every Sat like we used to).

So should the bodyshop have also replaced the n/s headlamp, painted the bonnet, n/s wing, mirror caps ect, i think your just dissapointed you hav'nt benefited from the situation as much as you'd hoped to, ive been in the body repair industry for over 20yrs and if the insurance engineer says partial panel repair, thats what you'll get, the only thing id be unhappy with is that they've painted the fillet on your winglett.

The only reason I kicked off about the lack of paint on the nearside was because it looked like the car had been repaired with only half the bumper painted.
Sorry, sounds like you're siding with the body shop as that's your trade. They should have done the job properly first time by the sounds of it.

Glad its being sorted, this sort of thing just sums up british companies, its all maximum profit, i mean, to do the whole bumper would of been, what 2 hrs extra prep and say at most another hour of spraying so 3 extra hrs plus another guess, £65 worth of paint so for 3 hrs work £100 plus paint £165, the company would rather that in their pocket than a totally happy customer
hope the final job is good
