Photography in a public place? Allowed or not?
This story has made it on to Look North ( the BBC local news programme) - apparently the Security Guards (who don't actually work for Golden Wonder) have 'Resigned' : the company have apologised to the 'photographer', and invited him to tour the factory!!
ECHR claims that photographing a child in the street with their parents can be considered a violation of their right to privacy, either way some weirdo middle aged man photographing my children without a good reason is going to get knocked out and his camera smashed to pieces.
It's symptomatic of the total ******* hysteria of people nowadays and their protectiveness of their kids, fuelled by the paranoia engendered by tabloid "journalism". Kids are SUPPOSED to interact with adults other than their parents - it's part of the whole idea of a child being brought up by a community. What possible harm can a fully-clothed picture of your child do? It just makes me so ANGRY!!
When we were in Tokyo, everywhere we went the locals were desperate to get photos of our kids (lad's a ginger).
It got to the point where women were picking them up to have pics taken!
The blokes were standing to attention - like they were proud to have pics taken with western pale faced kids - whilst the women were just hysterically excited!
We didn't mind one bit (neither did the kids) - it was actually very funny.
Some of the video we have still makes us laugh

Exactly what happens to my wife when she visits China: as a natural blonde, they ALL want photos of her and with her, and to touch her hair.
As a kid we holidayed in Spain, early 60's.
Many Spaniards in those days had never SEEN blonde hair and my younger sister got the same treatment.
She was given sweets, and her hair was repeatedly touched and caressed. In front of my parents.
Neither they, nor my sister, thought anything of it.

Citizens of Mali are very against to being photographed or filmed by the visitors. I had no idea that it was going to be that much of a "mission impossible" to achieve. Some of them explained it to me that past colonisation and continued exploitation of their heritage has put them on a high alert for the rip-offs and the do-gooders alike. Understandable, I think. I wonder if your GF's sensitivity over "people photography" is due to such reasons, Duncan.
