yes you can sleep there but stuff you leave will not guarunteed to be there when you come back.
if you kill all the witnesses to your murder then bounties in that hold are removed. if no bounties are outstanding then you wont be attacked. being a thane in whiterun means you can fob the guards off to overlook the bounties and turn a blind eye to minor indiscretions.
dont steal in plain sight. push the right joystick down into crouch mode. the eye means you're spotted, a line means you hidden. then you can steal away
pickpocketing is fun. try buying stuff of a merchant, go into crouch mode, sneak up behind him and try to steal back your gold. i would save your game before each time you want to pick pocket. the larger the amount the less chance you have of stealing it. the game will give you a percentage chance. anything less than 25% i wont do it.
try war maidens. go behind the guy, in crouch mode. try slipping him 20 gold, then try stealing it back. each time you slip him some money and pickpocket him your sneak level increases as well as your pickpocketing. remember to save your game each time BEFORE you pickpocket because if he catches you he is not friendly. if it doesn't come off, just reload the game and try again.

Some good tips there.
I like stealthing rather than full on attack, especially with a bow with all my extras on archery and multiple damage for sneak hits.
I really like the Movarth side-challenge as practice for this.
Came across a Frost Dragon - could not kill the ******!! Had to very slowly sneak past.
Came across a couple of named dragons that were very easy to kill with my soul gathering axe

Well erm I started playing at about 9.30 last night and then realised it was 3am Just on the edge of moving to level 5 and did the mission to get the tablet back and find the golden claw etc. Then killed my first dragon. And yes I said I was cr4p at these games hence taking me so long to level up.
However i've still only got 1700 gold and need 5000 for a house so it's going to take forever to afford one. The stuff i'm collecting is only worth peanuts in the traders even for the expensive clothing items. I'm talking to absolutely everyone but it doesn't put your speech skill up much. Even the level ups the speech one was add 10% to the value of what you sell well 10% of peanuts is still peanuts!
Where can I get iron ingots from? I've got loads of leather, pelts and leather strips but no iron ingots to make anything.

You can mine them or buy them. Look around at some smithing places there's normally a few knocking around.
I tend to just buy them from the person smithing.
Also don't worry about your speech there's a little trick to get that up easier, check my link to ign a few pages ago. That will help

When you're walking around and in the rocks / tunnels / mines look for banded sections of rocks.
These banded sections will be ore you can mine (a pickaxe is an essential piece of kit) - exhaust the ore vein and get back to a smelter to make ingots. You can sell the ingots for a quick profit or use them to create items at the forge.
There are veins absolutely everywhere - the more inaccessible the place, the better the ore (rewards for bloody-minded stubbornness with the jump key )

you will need either an enchanted weapon with a soul trap on it or be able to cast a soul trap spell. kill the creature and its soul will be captured in the petty soul gem. now go back to whiterun with your filled petty soul gems and go to the forge. using your iron ingots manufacture some iron daggers. you will also need leather strips. make 10 or so. then go up to the arcane enchanter in dragonsreach and enchant the daggers with any any enchantment it will allow. your iron ore which costs 3 gold plus your leather strip which costs 1 gold are now enchanted daggers worth about 250 gold. take the daggers back to either warmaidens or the general store and sell them on for a profit.
your smithing goes up, your enchanting goes up, your two handed or one handed goes up, your block goes up, your sneak goes up if you try and creep up on creatures, your speech goes up with every transaction. so all good. try that for a while. you wont be long raking in 5000 for the house in whiterun. remember you will need an extra 1500 to fit it out.

I do want Sinky does, I've got about 15 petty souls waiting to be enchanted.
What size soul gem is needed for humans? It always say i don't have enough.
Also why do dragons block it?

Dont forget to use your companion as a mule to carry more stuff, just keep the light expensive gear and bin some of the heavier weapons that dont fetch as much (studded armour at 6lbs is like 60g similar axe is 14lbs for the same money)

if you do the star of azura quest you get a refillable black soul gem. wouldn't recommend it for you now anonymous even though the guide says it should be capable by a level 0 player.
i found some of the quests a lot harder than others. the killing of the silverhands i found to by a major PITA, yet some of the old sorcerers i sneaked up on and killed with 2 arrows (e.g. killing the rogue wizard who had stolen the books from the mage college)

you can go to high Hrothgar and ask the high priest for the locations of the dragonwalls. he will tell you they have heard a whisper somewhere in skyrim and he will update your map. go to the location , kill everything, absorb the shout. be careful though some of the locations may not be suitable for your level and you may get your **** handed to you. frequent saves is the key here.

Cheers for all the info as it is all extremely helpful. I've decided to lay off it tonight as I can't have another 3am finish (the Wife wasn't too impressed lol plus). I'm eager to get cracking on smithing/finding iron ingots and doing the exploit to get my speech level up though so i'll be on it tomorrow hopefully.

I found the Silverhands really easy...except for one that was a complete bugger. With 240 health and a **** load of heavy armour and he could kill me with a single hit.
Paralysed the fekker and burned him - I burned him good!

I've been doing both. Ended up clearing a house at Rotten for the guild and doing the circle thing for the companions at Whiterun.
