Not quite sure on the suicide comment and family executions but public sector workers do indeed have a f*cking cheek striking.

I actually saw the whole thing on the One Show and to be honest, it's a storm in a teacup.

Clarkson actually agreed and showed sympathy to the strikers. Then made a comment that being the BBC, he should be balanced, so joked about shooting the strikers.

It was a frigging joke for gods sake.

I'm a public sector worker, I wasn't offended, I laughed.

This is the problem with unions, no sense of humour and no attempt to see both sides of any argument.

I didn't even know that. That makes the legal action even more pathetic. Getting p*ssed off at something said in jest is one thing, but if it was like you said, then it was blatantly obvious it wasn't even his opinion.

That's the funny thing about unions. Full of lefties claiming to be about equality for the average joe and all that; presumably as long as they don't say something the union doesn't agree with, eh? Then you're not on such equal ground. Reminds me of a certain book!

That's may be analysing it too much. It's probably sufficient to say that they're a bunch of 'tards. Hopefully they get nowhere.

It was funny.

If you watch the clip, you'll hear the presenters and crew were pissing themselves - nobody is saying they should be punished

I heard someone from UNISON comparing Clarkson to Gadaffi earlier

Absolutely pathetic.
One of the union members was filmed speaking to a cafe owner and trying to get their reasons across for striking.

The cafe owner said that he couldn't actually afford a pension at the moment as every penny he had was being ploughed into the business to keep it afloat. 'The country is broke' he said, 'There is no more money!'
It was a total fail for the union member and show how out of touch they really are. Everyone is having to make cutbacks, so why shouldn't they?

greedy people is a understatment low grasp of reality was needed as well .
union leaders where quoted as moaning about some workers only getting £4500 a year pension , some quick calculations will tell you that you need to pay in £185 quid a month for 45years to save £100,000 pounds , the amount needed to provide a £4500 per year pension and even then would have to live 22.2 years after retirement just to get your own money back , DREAMERS THE LOT OF THEM WAKE UP SMELL THE COFFEE LIKE THE REST OF US , YOUR BOSSSES ARE SCREWING US OVER

Same here. I saw it, and it was SO obviously meant as a joke, after saying that being the BBC, it should be balanced. They wanted him to be controversial, (after all, that's why they invited him on) and asked him on for 'his opinion', KNOWING what he was likely to come out with. And then the two presenters didn't know how to handle it. I can't believe the fuss. Is there nothing more important going on in the world to get worked up about at the moment?

I haven't seen it yet but will watch it tonight when i get home. If they did ask him what he thought of the strikes, then I'm not sure what response apart from the one he gave they were expecting??? Jeremy Clarkson saying something controversial shocker!

The BBC will never sack him, top gear is too big for that to happen.

Don't forget he's also got his Xmas DVD out to advertise......

Of course it was a joke, that's what Clarkson does, he entertains (not to everyones taste admitedly).

Anyone calling for him to be sacked off the back of this clearly have no sense of humour, I dont recall the leader of the TGWU coming out and saying he should be sacked for the Lorry Drivers kill Prostitutes gag.

Dave Prentis you're a prize **** !!

Well that shows how good a grasp Trade Union leaders have of maths. I'm doing some consultancy work for a public sector body at the moment and it turns out that 8% of the staff were on strike yesterday. So 92% are a "minority who refuse to accept democratic decisions". Hmmm......

Thing is the public sector is chock full of militants and people who couldn't get a job anywhere else, I did ten years there, Clarkson was doomed from the start to comment on this, he either had to sound really supportive and would be called insincere or be accused of lying, or if he was negative about it he would get pulled to bits so he just set out to cause a **** storm as he knows this country will get all offended and give him loads of publicity.

I think the strike lost its message a bit, there does seem to a be a militancy that goes above some pension changes, I frankly couldn't raise that much enthusiasm over a pension, something wrong if at 30 you are worrying about a pension enough to jeopardize your job, surely that means you intend being in the Public Sector for ever, which is ****.

I do sympathise to a certain extent as these by and large aren't massive pensions as people seem to think, a 15 grand a year grave digger wont see some 40 grand a year pension from 50. The problem with the public sector is all the private companies draining it of money, contractors in IT at the Police on £400 a day for six years, the £20 loaf's of bread for the wheat intolerant, supplied by a company making wads on it, signed off by someone in local government, they dole out your tax money like its Monopoly money.

Should have heard the whiter-than-whites on talk sport condemning him.

Its just reeks of slow news day TBH. Strikes were a p*ss poor turn out. So to cover the shortfall they pick up on someone making a comment about them.

I laughed my **** off at the Portsmouth picket line...five people with protest placards...FIVE. What a joke! Sums it up, a small percentage (i.e a minority) with a large voice pushing/pressuring everyone else in the union to follow suit.

My Uncles' wife is a admin/registrar at a hospital; She went to work yesterday. My cousin's partner is a nurse; She went to work yesterday. .My Mum's partner's daughter is a teacher; She went to work yesterday.

Says it all for me.
