Ye I would prefer a set up but seein as I had just bought the car, I wasn't in a position to get a map and a dyno was the only way of seein exactly what the car was doin. Definately tryin for a map before Christmas. God knows what power I'll be able to get but I think 300 would be a good amount.

The P1 is based on a version 5 sti, though it's not actually one that's recognised because it doesn't match any of the jdm models.

First you need to find someone who will look at your car and give you proper honest advice without having your pants down. At that point your spec can be in line with what is required and the car can be put in to good order for mapping.
You then need a mapper you can trust that is capable of sorting out your car and I would commend Bob Rawle to you www.brdevelopments.com
If you fail to follow the above advice start saving for a new engine. You cannot run these cars with random mods without careful mapping.
We would be prepared to help you but we are probably 200 miles North of your location.

Good advice from Harvey.

If you MUST mod, run it off boost until someone has tweaked the map, or prepare yourself for a LARGE bill.

I've nearly got the £££ for a remap I think. And by then I should have sorted all the small problems and have it ready for mapping as my mate knows a scooby genius :-) where is Bob Rawle based? Any idea on power I should get from a p1 lump with a tdo5-18g and fmic with a good map on it?

I'm not sure exactly. Some lad my mate knows who has built quite a few scoobys. So he said to take my car over to him sometime an have a chat and see of he can help. Also another mate of mine with a scooby has a mate who is a Motorsport engineer or something similar who I'm trying to contact now to see if he can help to. But I'm going to try contact Bob Rawle later and see what he can do for me :-)

I hope bob sorts this out as it seems like you're getting some good advice from recommended tuners etc who are taking the time to post/help you and you're not taking it.

Taking it to "a mate of a mate" isnt the way forward. Pay the £, get it mapped, take the advise of the mapper at the time.

I am taking the advice and goin to get it mapped. But if there is someone local who can sort any big issues before I go for a map then it's goin to save me and the mapper time rather than them having to sort out any silly problems. And they might aswel get sorted now as I won't be able to get a map till the end of the month to mid December probably

that car needs to be in tip top ready to map condition before you get there, Bob will give the car a bit of a pre map inspection and if there is something mechanically wrong with it you will be SOL and will have to drive home again so just make sure you have EVERYTHING covered before you go!

Give Richard at FB Tuning a ring. He is in the Aylesbury direction which is not too far from you. Your car wants to be in tip top condition as already indicated before you get to Bob.
A good 18G is a 360 bhp turbo so if you have the correct mods that are complimentary you are aiming for something in the order of that power output.

Does anyone know if there are any good places in Milton Keynes/Bedford/St Neots area to get the car checked over. I don't mind driving to Aylesbury for a good check over, but obviously some where closer would be better.
@ Harvey, Richards number is now in my phone and he will probably be receiving a phone call tomorrow. Cheers

In my experience it is worth making the effort to travel if you are going to find someone who is knowledgeable, honest and competant. That applies equally to getting work done and to mapping. There are hundreds of examples on this board where people have wanted to use someone locally and then lost their car in the garage for days at a time, even weeks, and paid through the nose for a simple job not done properly.
Furthermore, why travel 20 miles for half a map when travelling 120 miles gives you a proper map.
QED.

I totally agree on that. I just didn't know if there were any competent places nearer to me. Looks like I'll have to get travelling around :-)

Surely Richard isn't that far from you and he gets good reports from the people whose cars he works on from here.
Bob wants your car turning up in good order and will check your boost control pipework etc. but there is a limit to what he can do if things are wrong and he is a mapper, not a fitter. I know of at least one mapper who makes you take your car out of his workshop if it needs the least little thing done to it and he leaves you to sort it in the carpark and if you have no tools you are stuffed.
I urge you to let Richard look it over first.

Ye I'll be down here once it's running again. I took the turbo off this weekend to sort a snapped stud for the downpipe and I'm going to replace the copper washers whilst I'm at it and the rocker cover gasket as its leaking slightly. Then arrange a time to get it over to fb tuning. But it is definately a td05h-18g so god knows why it only made 245bhp at 1bar. Definately needs a good map :-)

Sack the mbc off mate. I put my need for an engine rebuild down to one of those pieces of crap. Run standard boost and don't give it no real stick until u get mapped for your mods. If you learn from my mistakes it could save u the fortune I forked out!

Manual bleed valve is gone ;-) its somewhere in the back of the car now. So it's standard boost and I'm in the process now of making sure everything is as it should be and then taking it to a pro to get checked over before a nice map. Oh and making up my own exhaust from the downpipe back so it's 3 inch rather than 2.5.
