His behaviour, even without the black comment, is hardly the pinnacle of sporting achievement.

Fined a weeks wages and banned for a game or two?

I'm sorry, but this attitude really annoys me. It's almost like anyone is fair game other than a person of a different colour.

When somebody insults another, it is usually done quickly in anger without thought, picking up on the easiest thing possible to cause offence. It's not nice, it's not right but it happens. It just really boils my **** when certain people seem to think an insult is so much worse when race comes into play, when the person throwing the insult may well not even be racist. It's just an easy insult at the time. Of course people who are 'different' for a different reason don't matter when something is thrown at them.

Agreed, but it is up to the FA (or whatever) to change how people are punished for how they behave on or off the pitch.

What would you personally suggest is fair?

What? Are things that bad in football these days that footballers are not allowed to swear and insult each other?? Not using racist insult off course.

As for Anton Cuntinand! I bet he only brought it to the attention of everyone for publicity. Anything to get plastered all over the tabloids!!! C*nt!!

Anton didn't bring it to the attention of anyone, he didn't even know about it until after the game.

My theory is that they will make an example of him.

2 weeks wages
5 match ban

and as a result, stripped of England captaincy

The fact that he accused him with that derogatory name as well as adding his colour in front of it infers that his colour is a factor in the description and that being black is partly responsible for what he called him.

It is hardly surprising that the PC Plonkers will jump on that and blow it up out of proportion in relation to what Terry actually was probably thinking.

Very silly mistake to make given today's sensitivities in particular and even if those sensitivities did not actually exist.

More importantly, it really does show what type of a person he is, not even bright enough to realise that half his team is black and would probably be quite offended by his remark, weather or not he is an actual racist he really has **** on himself Big time, i would love to know whats being said amongst the black players on his team and in the England squad.

At worst it's very, very mild racism but common language for uneducated slobs like Terry.

No worse really than my Porsche breaking down and I kick the tyres and say Fat German b,astards or if my Toyota goes wrong and I shout bloody slit eyed nips. Just part of life's rich language tapestry although I wouldn't shout it out in someone's face

And if anyone takes England's football image as something to preserve then Terry should never have been made Captain.

We all say things that could be considered racist, but that does not say we are. I don't say I am off to the Indian Takeaway for a curry. I'm not saying what I do say as some pathetic folks might take offense. There is not a racist bone in my body and I do think this Country has more than it's fair share of "$hit stirrers" who love to throw the racist card, even for the most mild statement.

My 2p:

Ok, lots of people dish out throw away comments on the spur of the moment to get a reaction. Is Terry a racist? Possibly. Did he mean to be racist or just annoy Ferdinand? Who knows. Would I get upset and complain if I got called a f'ing white c**t? Probably not.

What DOES annoy me, is that this bloke is supposed to be a professional. He's paid to be a professional... He's supposed to be an example to youngsters - kids are going to think it's acceptable to act the way he did. THAT is not right, and for that, I think he should get a big enough punishment to make him and others think twice.

As a woman i would think you should know all about ism,and i would suggest you try and relate this comment to some of the ones you no doubt receive on a regular basis, while not exactly life altering they are all the same un welcome and sometimes unpleasant, and quite often uncalled for which i think fits the bill with this particular comment.

I don't receive any "ism" comments on a regular basis I'm afraid you have lost me on this one.

If you have to resort to including someone's colour or race in an insult then you clearly believe their colour or race makes them inferior to yourself. Calling somone a fat **** is different to calling someone a black **** or a paki **** or a jewish ****. You can slim down but you can't become less black or less asian or less jewish. John Terry is a thick common white **** from a "trailertrash" drug dealing background and I suppose he can't help that, but you would think a multimillionaire in the public spotlight would be able to act like a gentleman and not a common white ****? Clearly he is a stupid white ****.

Really. I care not what you think.
I really feel the racist card is thrown far to much. Okay, different context. I see a coloured bloke who is really attractive. I say to my friends, the black bloke is gorgeous. Does that make me a racist because I state his colour.
Ok, it's not an insult, but I am stating he is black.
My post may be badly worded, but backward it is not. People say stuff all the time, that could be taken the wrong way. I personally found the "c" word far more offensive than mentioning his colour before it.
Oh and back at ya, with spades (do not make anything of that statement please)

The FA will have to throw the book at him.

They always push their 'kick out racism' slogan, so to have the England captain call anyone a black c**t and not punish him isn't an option IMO

Calling someone a black **** is not acceptable. If I was black and someone called me black **** I would want to kick their teeth in. If someone called me a stupid **** that would be more difficult to denounce white or black.
