If it were me i'd hold out for the hawkeye sti. I love the 2.5L engine, so much torque. Great to drive. There are some criminally cheap hawkeyes out there now!

To be fair, those problems are only on the 08-09 (focus/mazda) shape 2.5L due to the poor factory map mostly!

06-07 Hawkeye 2.5s are much better!

Im probably not the best person to ask as i have a very heavy right foot!

But recently i was playing to see how many miles to a tank i could get if i stayed off the turbo. Acheived around 180 to 3/4 tank. Town driving with some dual carragieway. (i dont like running below 1/4 tank) but i did it again down to about an 1/8 of the tank remaining and i broke 210 easy.

Heavy right foot? 3/4 tank will barely reach 140 miles. Mines stock too so not running mad power

If i were you i'd stay away from the 2.5 engines. If i had known about the problems they get before i got mine i wouldnt have bought it.

youd be lucky mate. Might be acheivable if you run right down into the petrol light area. (The thought of that just made me cringe) I have OCD with the most peculiar things!

Hi, i ran a 04 wrx for 18months and after a remap was running sti numbers, fuel wise i'd say 25 is the all round average, a mate has the st and his was worse at around 20/22, on a run if you are careful and keep it off boost then you will see good numbers as much as 30, but the moment you decide to over take the numpty they drink, my worst was 105miles to a tank and best about 310 to give you some idea of the difference.

But if your worried about fuel maybe this is not the car for you.

However if you go for it i'm 100% sure you will not regret the move, there is so much more to owning a subaru than the cost of fuel.

You WILL have a grin on your face all the time.

Then when you've had it, 3/4months get it remapped by andy f, (he's the man in your area) and buy some nappies because this is a whole new world.

Start saving as once the bug bites you will be like a crack *****.

The 2.0L 05 is the best of the uk sti's and as said will do a safe 420bhp very cheaply.

your asking on a subaru site if they prefer an sti over a ford???
i find the fuel consumption appalling on an sti.
you will only ever see 30 if you do 50mph , normal everday driving i.e around town and a bit of a run you will see 20.
if you get much over 200 miles to a £70 tank you will be lucky!
dont get me wrong i love my sti but its just too expensive as an everday car.

I get 25mpg and 240 miles from my 56 plate 2.5L without waiting for the light to come on, so will do more than that and never (quite) costs me £70.

And thats with 334 bhp upgrades and fuel popping thirsty map!

Yep, it’s a WRX. Duncan mapped it on Tesco 99 so that’s all I use in it now!

sti does less mpg.
realistic everday driving returns 200 miles to a tank on a 2.0l sti.
yes you can get more if you do 50 mph on a motorway for 300 miles.
but normal use will return 200 in my experience, and a few short journey here and there in traffic and you will be scared.
if mpg is an issue you really are looking at the wrong car, stick with you front wheel drive shopping car lol.
but if your after a semi practical performance car, sti all the way

I agree Tubs. If anyone worried about fuel costs, insurance costs & tax then this may not be the right car for them! Lol.

I think you have a very heavy right foot,or some major over fueling.

My type r with 300bhp will do 300+ to a tank on a run, i won't let it go below 1/4 so i don't know exactly but i recon around 350, just don't let it go on boost is the secret, like i said if your boosting it in every gear it WILL drink
