Auberge du Lac
I'm sure trouts post isn't suggesting that if an IFA has almost exclusive HNW clients that it makes them a good IFA. Equally speaking an IFA with few HNW clients isn't automatically sh1te.
Its mostly location (or at least client location) that dictates your average client net worth.
As for the OP, I too wouldn't like to get too friendly with an IFA that splashes cash like its water. You go to some practices and theres new BMWs, new Audi's, Range Rovers and usually the odd Aston Martin. Our MD drives about in a 54 plate MK5 Golf (he's not skint either!!!) If you have an IFA who is careful with their money then its more likely they will be careful with your money.

Some IFAs make sure they go and find the locations with the HNW - they specialise. The top end guys will be fee based (percentage of holdings). To keep their clients they at least need to be reasonable as fee based business is much more dependent on customer loyalty.
My point is that there are a good number of IFAs who do make top dollar - and they usually are good.
It's good for another year, maybe two. It's playing second fiddle to the '96 now, of course.
